What does it mean when a student request is "cancelled by system"?

I believe you can get that message if the student submitted a request to multiple mentors and another accepted. To prevent conflict, the system automatically cancels all other pending requests since a person can only have one mentor at a time. Perhaps someone official can clarify for sure.
