What are the best aspects of participating in the Mentoring Program?

Contributor: Drakoni Drakoni
For those of you who have participated in the Mentoring Program as mentees:
What were the best aspects of the program for you?
Did your mentor do anything above-and-beyond that really helped you write better reviews?

Thanks for sharing your experiences! ^_^

Absolutely. All of my highest rated reviews were written with the help of mentors. Yes, plural. It's really nice to have a second set of eyes going over things and to get a different perspective on what to include or not include, as the case may sometimes be. I think it's highly beneficial and now that I'm a mentor myself, I look forward to helping others the way I was helped. It's kind of like reviewing with training wheels.

What Stormy said. It's nice to have a second set of eyes to say something you might have forgotten to include or just didn't even think about.

Stormy was actually my mentor and she helped me with what size to scale my pictures and techniques on how to do the brightness/contrast as well. She also helped me with wording on certain things that I wasn't being clear enough on. She gave me this great tip on wearing a tank top with a see through outfit because I couldn't think of any way to take pictures without posting porn. She did a lot of things "above and beyond" just saying "you forgot the measurements of xyz" (but she did that, too!). She helped me look at little things that I would never have thought to look at, like seaming, that a lot of people really want to know when reading reviews. I'm eternally grateful for her help.

I enjoyed being a student because it helped me think of a few extra things that I otherwise wouldn't have thought of, plus the mentor I was taught by is always there for me if I ever have any questions, even though I've already graduated. I also tend to follow her reviews as much as possible to get ideas and see what I should include in my own reviews, and just having a second pair of eyes as mentioned before, made it a whole lot easier to see little details.

I really enjoyed the mentor program as a student and one day hope to be a mentor myself, helping other new users improve their reviews!

The mentor program is fantastic, you always get input on a review before it goes straight to being published. Sometimes you read the review when it's published and think "why didn't I catch that mistake?" well a mentor will catch it and let you know to look everything over again. Right now my mentor is aliceinthehole she's pretty great about feedback, added extra's to make a review pop, giving examples, and responding quickly.

Alan&Michele were my mentor(s) and they were awesome.

A good mentor knows how to help you write reviews that will get good comments and they'll help you catch mistakes, etc.

I've had two mentors so far. My first, and the one that had the biggest impact so far, was Sexy In Texas. Actually, I think I sort of convinced her to become a mentor, just to help me along. She was an outstanding mentor, and as I understand, has just gotten even better at it as she goes along. Her knowledge of the site, reviews, and how things fit together, really got me started well at EF.
My second mentor, Antipova, provided me with great help on adding photos to my reviews, which has made them even better. This has been a great help in improving the level of review that I produce.
I firmly recommend the Mentor program for anyone who is just coming to EF as a new reviewer, and as a way to improve your skills at any level.
I am considering looking for a third mentor in the near future once I define exactly what I want to work on.

I have had three so far, not sure if I will take up another anytime soon. Each one provides something different to the table. I like the program because it gives you a chance to get asked all those questions you might of forgot before publishing. So no one but you and your mentor know your mistakes the first time and then you can edit them. It is really awesome. I had Naughty Student, Sexyintexas, and Sam all were really great and believe it or not I failed one of those.

That's one of the reasons I love teaching. My students ask me the basic questions and not-so-basic questions that I wouldn't think about otherwise.

That's interesting! I sent Sexyintexas a request to be my mentor.
