Just sharing an explanation of the Mentor program/how to get products

Contributor: Hot 'N Sexy TexasMama Hot 'N Sexy TexasMama
I had a message today from someone who wanted to learn more about how the review program worked and how you get products. I broke the information down into a series of messages back and as I was sharing about this with my family, they suggested I share this here too. So here goes...

Hi! First of all - please feel free to ask me to go into further detail on anything you don't understand - ok?

Eden Fantasys will send you FREE products to review - but first you must become an advanced reviewer.

There are two ways to do this. The best way is to get a mentor who will work with you. Basically, you will write your reviews and submit them to the mentor who will send them back to you with suggestions on how to improve. You edit the review and this process goes back and forth until the mentor feels your review is ready to be published. This happens for a minimum of 2 reviews. Once the mentor feels you're ready to graduate - they will graduate you and you are now an advanced reviewer.

If you do not have products to review - there is a way that a mentor can request something up to $30 in value for you to review. I'm not sure on all the details about this as I've never had to do it.

The other way to become an advanced reviewer is to write a minimum of two reviews and then go before the community for a vote. Once you receive 5 votes, which is very easy, then you are an advanced reviewer and can request free products.

I'm going to go into requesting the free products in the next message and send this one off.

I will say that I think getting a mentor is the best way to go because you tend to get higher / better votes which leads to higher ranking which leads to higher $$ limit on the products you can request for free.

Here is a link to the mentor list and information: link

Ok - now let's talk about what happens after you become an advanced reviewer.

You will go to the review program information which I'm linking to here: link

You'll use the product search feature to find products that you want to review. (This may not be available until you're an advanced reviewer - I'm not sure).

Eden Fantasys will supply you for free - a product that is in your price range and does not have 3 or more reviews already assigned on it.

So you will want to search for products that are "free assignment" and "Eden Fantasys sponsored". Find a few that you'd like to request (I usually use the "no review" option when searching) and then submit an assignment request. You can submit more than one - but only one product will be assigned at a time.

In addition, there are "free assignments" that are "manufacturer sponsored". You may also request up to one of these at a time. You will do the same type of search.

You may request ONE free Eden assignment and ONE free manufacturer sponsored assignment at the same time if you want.

Now this is important to note: You can only get one FREE Eden assignment per month.

You can also only request ONE free manufacturer at a time - but once you get done with that review - you can request another - even if it has been less than 30 days.

In my next message, I'm going to talk about some other review options for advanced reviewers.

Another option you have as an advanced reviewer is to request up to 6 "buy-out" assignments per month. You purchase these items at 30% off and then write a review on them within 3 weeks if I remember right. (You can request a short extension if you need it).

For instance, let's say that you see something on Eden that you really want to buy at the discount. You look at the upper right hand side of the page (but not at the top) and you'll see a "grab it" option. Click on that and grab it and add it to your assignment cart. Then click on the assignment cart option and click on "request assignment" or "buyout" or whatever it is that it says.

Once again - the limit is 6 within a 30 day period and if you have any outstanding reviews that are due from free products - then you can't order these products until those reviews are done.

My next message will be about more options as you become higher in the ranks as a reviewer.

Now - once you've become what I call an "established" reviewer where they see your style and know you're dependable - maybe 30-40 reviews or so - then you can become part of the "descriptive review program" if you apply and they accept you. When Eden gets in new products that they need reviews on before putting them on the site - these are the people they will offer products to. You have a list of preferences you fill out - and you never HAVE to receive an assignment - it is up to you. I am usually offered two to three products at a time and usually I take them all. These are the reviews that you see on product pages.

There is also the "video review program". Now anyone can do video reviews if you email Carrie Ann and get permission ahead of time. However, for the video review program, you get to request an additional free item per month that doesn't have two or more video reviews on it - and if it is approved, they will send you the item to review. After the review is done, you also get a $25 gift card for the review.

I have been able to review so many items because I have earned gift cards on the site many many ways. The Eden Lit club used to allow you to earn up to 3 $10 gift cards per month. For a while, Eden Cafe was paying writers in gift cards for writing articles and I was earning gift cards for doing video reviews when I'd get permission ahead of time to do the review, etc.

We figured once - about a month ago - that we had about $3500 in products if I remember right - and I'd paid about $1300 (which we could afford). A lot of that was from a combination of using gift cards when items were on sale so I might be getting a $50 item for $30 and not having to pay anything for it cause of the cards.

I hope that makes sense.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions!

You always make such thorough descriptions for everyone in explaining things so they understand the whole process. I wish people would understand that it's not polite to click somewhat useful on 7 reviews in 1 minute....SIGH.... to just point farm.

Thank-you so much for this explanation! On the Mentor Program Service Page under "My Student Program" it says that one needs to sign in to the advanced level contributor account in order to receive an assignment. I had assumed that this meant that I needed to be an advanced member before I could sign up for the mentorship program. Thanks for the clarification!

Oh yes thank you so much Texas Mama I did not know some of the things you mentioned especially the review for manufacturers. You learn something new every day and I am sure learning things day by day.

Also thank you for including that product search from the link. I never knew that was there at all never paid attention to it. This will be so helpful now.

I reminded JR about this but I wanted to say it here as well, Newer Contributors need to know that if you apply to more than one mentor at a time it cancels the previous application, so look carefully and then pick the one you want to work with. Also give the mentor time to get the email saying that someone wants to join their class, it isn't sent the second you apply. If you want to let them know sooner, you can send the contributor a message on the site. Thanks HNSTM for this insight into the mentor/advanced reviewer programs.

I totally agree with this too. You should even shop around for mentor. If you are wanting a mentor that fits your needs the best way to find out is to talk to the mentor. Find out if your timing will match up, if you like their style, or if you will even get along. This is very important.

This was super helpful, but I'm still stuck on one level -- I have a student that I'm working with and she doesn't have anything to review, and I have no idea how to get something for her. She had mentioned that her previous mentor pushed a product for her. I'm probably missing something simple here, but how do I do this?

Some of the details of the opening posts aren't correct anymore, if I'm not mistaken.

There is a lot of good content here, and the order of operations is great information....but some of the details have changed since this thread began.
