MENTORS ONLY, how many of you have taken a class in the mentor program?

Contributor: lexical lexical
When I first started mentoring, I found it very difficult to do without knowing the ins and outs of the program from the students' perspective. I got the hang of it, but I'm just now finally taking my first class, after being a mentor for a long time already!

Please pardon my typos, LOL. I've been working on online coursework all day and my typos are getting worse as the day wears on. Whew!

I think that taking a class should be a prerequisite for becoming a mentor.

I didn't find the class all that useful for my future performance as a mentor.
I am a mentor who has never taken a class, but I intend to.

I had a mentor when I first began here. I don't think I would've ever went into the mentoring program had I not been mentored myself. I guess I'd have felt like I didn't know as much. I think my own mentor's ways have helped me learn a few things. I don't do things the same way she did, but I at least knew the basics.

I took the mentor program twice this helped me realize what type of mentor I would like to be overall. I might do it again now that I am also a mentor just to help keep my skills the best they can be.

I had three mentors prior to becoming one myself and I added a fourth after becoming a mentor. Down the line there will probably be more. I like having someone to catch something I may have missed and it's refreshing to see the different styles of various mentors.

I was one of the first mentors when the program was first released. I did not have a mentor. In fact, I do not need one. Some people don't, others do. Then again, I had been reviewing for about three years at that point, so there was no reason to have a mentor.

I did not have a mentor before coming one. I have "mentored" in my professional life for over 20 years, so I feel fine about that part of it. I do have a book and a video that I would like to review, so if I come across a mentor who specializes in media, I might consider taking a class for those specific items, but I don't know that it is absolutely necessary.

I had two mentors prior to becoming a mentor myself. I don't think I would have understood the program otherwise.
