I'm unsure about this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case.

In general, people use the Mentor Program as the way to gain advanced status. The Mentor receives a reward for working with students and helping them gain advanced status. If a Mentor works with someone who is already advanced, or who gets voted into advanced status while in a class, the Mentor doesn't receive a thing.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have, and I'm here to help you get settled at Eden in any way I can, but I save class spots for those who want to use the program to gain experience and practice, and get advanced status that way.
In short, it's a bit of an etiquette thing. Basically, using a Mentor as your backup for gaining advanced status is asking them to give up their reward for helping you if it all works out with your voting. As a Mentor, I spend hours with my students fine tuning reviews, and although it may not seem like much, I feel like I deserve the little bit I get in exchange for that time and effort.
Hope that sheds some light on things for you - and I wish you well here!

The program is not on hold. I am working with students every day. Not sure where you got that impression.
