Mentors, I am wondering, if you were to fail a student would you message them letting them know? What would you even say? Or would you just fail them and move on? Not sure how one should go about it.
Failing a student?

I haven't had to do this yet, but I would message them with an explanation.

It would mean more to me if the mentor let me know what happened.

I do message them, let them know that due to XXXXX, I did not graduate them. They should get a different mentor to work with them so they can graduate and get the promotion.

I agree with this. Personally, I think failing without explaining why would be awfully rude.

Agree, with the exception of if the person was being rude first or something.

Okay, thank you! I wasn't sure, as I haven;t had to fail a student. Was just curious!

I would do everything in my power to avoid failing them but if they started being MIA or refused to fix things that I had mentioned repeatedly I would send a message explaining why I had to fail them.

I've had to fail a number of stundents. When they disappear and don't come back, there is nothing else I can do. I send a message saying why unless we talked somewhere else like Twitter.

Yep, I'll typically message the student as well to let them know what's going on.
