i know this is for review section but i have a question

would you rate a product you did not own? like go to the page and click 1-5 stars. i thought rate was if you own it and you say how good it is. i see people rate stuff but comment that they want it and im confused. i thought lure in your wishlist was how much you want it. i see users rating and i think they use it like lure?

what do you do personally?

I don't rate products unless I own them because no matter how fun something might look I never know how much I will like it until I try it
I agree though, it seems as if some people rate products and use it like a lure.

You are right, they should not be doing this. That is what the "strawberries" are for when products are not yet available. You rate using those to show your interest in a product, but use the stars when you actually have used the product.

I've noticed a few people doing this (with one Lelo product in particular) and not having used it yet. It gets annoying, but I've come to disregard those and look solely at the reviews and the star rating those get. I've only ever used the stars when I've used a product but perhaps haven't had a chance to review it yet (like I bought it with my own money) or if I reviewed it for another retailer.

I feel the same as the others before me. Most of the time I do not even look at the rating, but focus my attention to the stars and reviews.

Ditto to everyone else. Maybe the people who are doing it are new and don't know better?

I don't put much faith in the short form "comment" reviews and the overall star rating. It's just too easy for people who are bored or feel the need to mess with something to skew it. The long reviews where people justify "why" it is worth so many stars are much more useful.

I don't even use the star ratings that much, mostly because of what y'all have already said -- they often aren't as accurate as the review ratings. If I've reviewed a toy, I'll sometimes add my star rating to the product page. I like using the Lure strawberries, though. I also like seeing those Lures on new products because it helps me know what everyone else thinks of a new product, too.

I've seen people doing this too, I think it's a mistake and possibly a misunderstanding due to new comers. I would do as earlier suggested, try reading the reviews only, if you're interested in the product. That will help you decide whether you want it or not. Disregard the star rating for the most part unless the star rating is on a review.

I agree!

When I started shopping on EF I based my purchases a lot on the star rating. So rating without having tried the product sort of makes the rating irrelevent, it's even less objective than it could be.

I agree with you also. I haven't rated any products on the product page directly bcs I rate them in my reivew and don't feel the need to re-rate them so to speak.

I am new here and have been wondering this as well. I am so glad I keep reading in the forums, most of my questions end up answered. I never rate an item even if I own it. (Mainly because I was unsure what it meant) I will rate the item if I a review on it but I believe that is different.
