Worth reading, but not useful?

Contributor: Zombirella Zombirella
I know I've been here awhile, but I never asked, though I wondered often. Why is there an option to vote "Worth reading, but not useful"? What exactly does this mean to you (or does EF have an explanation for choosing this answer). I just find a review is useful, somewhat useful or not.

I hope I don't sound stupid asking someone to elaborate on this.

And I just wanted to add that I'm not complaining or trying to stir anything up, just curious.

For me, I consider it to be a review that contains the bare basics about the product ("worth reading" to get basic info) but nothing beyond that to tell me how well it worked ("not useful" because it doesn't provide any new insight).

I think "worth reading but not useful" describes about 60% of the reviews on Amazon.com -- if they bother to mention whether or not they liked the product before launching into a random political tirade, then it's better than than many reviews on the site, while it's the rare review on Amazon that bothers to actually provide any useful information that will influence my purchase decision.

Here, the reviews are mostly outstanding, because people take them seriously, but the average person who just wanders by and reviews a toy they happen to have might not realize they've entered a whole new culture, and review it as they would review a product at Amazon, for example. If they put in any effort at all, it's worth reading, but it's not worthy of the higher scores.

For me, personally, Worth Reading... is a review chock full of personal experience but no factual information to back it up. It is worth reading for ideas on how to incorporate it or use the item but as far as material, size, vibrations, cleaning, etc. I need to check another review or the item page.

I vote worth reading but not at all useful when review isn't useful at all. I do this because it's at least worth reading. I don't feel like no review is not at all useful, because it's at least worth reading. It's just one step above not at all useful.

I usually vote this way if the review was humorous or entertaining but had no actual info, or very little info, in it. So it's worth reading from an entertainment perspective, but not actually useful in making a buying decision.

That's when I vote "worth reading but not useful", too.

i rarely use that in a vote unless i find information thats just flat wrong or it seems the person didnt even actually use it and just wrote a bunch of crap that isnt useful at all but was entertaining. think i've only ever voted that way maybe 2 or 3 times.

to me its where a review is actually intereting to read but it doesnt give the info needed on the product...so there for it was fun reading it but not useful!

This is the same way I feel about it, but I rarely vote at all on those.

I think giving some of the basic info makes a review worth reading. I rarely use this, but on occasion when there is so little info about the product or its use I will vote this way.
