What do you like in Movie Reviews

Contributor: Sammi Sammi
DBD's question on book reviews got me thinking about this.
What does everyone like to read in a porn movie review? What's essential to know? Do you like details about the scenes or just a summary of the sex acts? How much detail do you like to see, and do you like having reviewers opinions on the movie and scenes, or just more general information?

Like book reviews, movie reviews help me to decide whether or not the item is a good choice for me. I want to know about the action, the actors and the ambiance of the film.

I like to know if it's scenes, or a plot. I want to know if it's well done or I'm going to be completely distracted by out of place details. (High heeled stilletto's and a tramp stamp tattoo on a civil war vignette.) I don't care about condoms or safe sex practices - after all the movie isn't real. I want to know if both partners get pleasure or if it's all about the money shot. I want to know the general categories of porn - lesbian, couples, threesome, mix, fetish - including whatever extreme category you might find. I don't want to really buy a movie and find I'm watching some guy fuck a goat, and my husband doesn't want to watch two guys!

Sure .

lol - I wouldn't want to see some guy fuck a goat either!

Something else I wonder about - what kind of language is good for a review? Does it depend a lot on the type of movie?
For example, if it's a more sensual movie, is softer language better (anal sex instead of ass fucking, for example)? And vice versa?

Still curious if anyone had any comments on the language usage (softer vs. harder language)?

For me, that kind of depends on the movie. In a soft core porn video, nicer words would help to better understand the nature of the film. If it's a hardcore movie, then the "harder" words explain it better.

I guess my point is that the accuracy of the language and word choice helps me understand what I'd be getting.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other as far as soft and hard language goes. Of course there's some that would probably prefer the softer language but I'm a big girl and can take words like ass fucking just fine.

I would say to just use your own style and way of speaking when you write. We all have our own personal style and either way is fine with me!

Being in health care, I have a hard time using the hard core words in a review. It was engrained in my simple mind to NEVER use those words and I can't switch over when writing reviews. I don't mind reading them in reviews though.

Rather than start a whole new thread, I'll just go off of this one. I'll be writing my first porn review pretty soon and I was wondering, besides what's already been mentioned, what do people want to see?

Also more specifically, how detailed do you like the synopsis? Do you want a complete play by play and critique of each scene or just a general outline?
