So I've been noticing something and I just read something that Beck posted that seems in agreement: are we rating toys in comparison to other toys in their classes? Like bullets vs bullets and wands vs wands? Cause I just got a baby fairy wand and compared to my fun factory ocean it's a 2 vs 4 and that would make the hitachi a 10 don't you think?
Vroom discrepancies

- 1
- 2
- 3
- 4
- 5
That's kind of silly. I rate everything on the same scale, with 5 being the hitachi.. and since nothing comes close, the highest anything else can get is a 4.

I compare toys along the following scale:
5 - wands and toys that most users will not use on their max setting
4 - really strong vibrators
3 - moderate vibrators that don't get me off but probably would get someone else off
2 - weak / warmup vibrators
1 - is this thing on?
I do not compare toys to others in their category: I compare them to all toys I've tried.

No. I don't really do that, but if it's a VERY expensive toy, for instance Deux, and it's vibrations are the same quality of a cheaper toy, I will be honest. In my opinion, an expensive toy should have good vibrations like Matryoshka, so I will knock off because it isn't as good as what it SHOULD be for that price, but that's a good thing to do. I mean I think it's good to compare and say which has the strongest, more penetrating vibrations and well, if I paid $118 for Matryoshka and $164 for Deux, and Deux's are cheapish, I'm going to put that when I rate the vibrations.

I don't really rate the toy's vibrations based on other ones necessarily, but on what the quality of the vibrations are for the price and such.

This and what Adriana Ravenlust said are what I expect when I read reviews. The vroom rating should rate the strenght of the vibrations no matter what type of vibrator is being rated. I also see some non vibrating toys get vroom ratings and that is silly in my opinion!

when i see a non vibrating toy with a vroom rating (a clit stim gel for instance) i think of it as an intensity rating

all i meant was that the hitachi is so much stronger than most 4 vroom toys that i think it should have, say, a plus sign after it (5+ vrooms). the difference between a 3 and 4 is not much which is why i go for half vrooms but a and a 5 can be a way bigger difference

Usually when I write a review on a product that vibrates, I'll tend to say in the review text portion how I felt about the vibrations, rather than just leaving it to the vroom rating to explain it all. Sometimes I'll write "The vroom rating is probably a 3 1/2 of out 5" just because we can't give half ratings I know that wasn't your original question I just thought I'd add on to the conversation lol

I rate all my vibrators on their highest setting.
The way I give stars is in comparison to all vibrators not just like to like. In the body of the review I will specifically talk about comparing say one clit vibe to another, but the vroom rating is comparing that toy to every toy in my collection.
Unfortunately, as my collection grows, so does my star rating. Some of my early vibrator reviews... well looking back on them, I was too generous in their rating, and I am the first person to voice that there should be a another follow-up review for a year after publication.
5: Deep, thumpy, rumbley... mmm... in heave... get's me off in under five minutes. Doesn't numb body parts. (at the moment, only the vr6 and Tango)
4: The toy gets me off, but it takes a little bit longer than five minutes, but under twenty. But I still love the toy!!! (G4 Tiger, The Big Boss, Uma, MiMi, Matryoshka)
3: Deep vibrators that should have one more oomph level because no matter how I try I just cannot seem to get off to this toy, but the toy is still a good and decent thump and still get used as a warm up toy. OR buzzy toys that I just cannot seem to make work for my body. (Leaf Spirit, Siri, ummm.... and others I just cannot think!!!)
2: Toys that just when you put them on the table, they don't do anything but sit there. I don't think I've given a two star.
1: ummm... I don't know? Maybe I mistakened this toy as a vibrator but it is really a dildo.
