What do you prioritize when you're coming up with a title?

Contributor: Antipova Antipova
Titles for my reviews are always tricky for me---I want to cram so much information in there, but they have to be so short!

Since you can only fit a few words, what do you prioritize?

Right now I'm trying to title my review for the Jopen Vanity Vr10.5---and while I usually try to include both the name of the toy and how I feel about it, and stick in a pun if there's room... I just don't know how to merge "Vr10.5" with my thoughts.

What do you prioritize when you're writing your titles? Single choice because there's a BOTTLENECK :|

I don't really think you need to include the name of the product, it should be obvious to anyone reading it what the review is for. I usually either go for something vaguely witty, or something that sums up how I feel about it in a couple of words.

That's usually what comes to mind first for me - I love puns or wordplay titles, but either they just come or they don't.

Just something stupid I come up with really. I wish I was more clever.

I've only written one review so far, but I'm pretty obsessive about the words I use when I'm writing anything and I frequently agonize over them for extended periods of time. So, I feel your pain! I couldn't really choose any of the options listed because I think it sort of depends on a lot of different things. If something just happens to lend itself to a witty pun, then that would definitely be my first choice, but if the toy has some particular quality that stands out or something that I personally find important about it, I might try to get that in the title instead. Having BOTH would be golden! Cute references or songs are awesome too, if there's something that works. LOL! I'm sorry I can't be more helpful!

The tone of the review for sure. It just throws me when someone titles something like "My private O-rgasm!" (I just came up with a name of a toy I own and a pun on the fly) and in the review they're like "This toy was so weak, there's no way it could get off a fly!"

It really needs to match your rating and feelings, at least I think so.

I can rarely resist to express my opinion in a less direct, hopefully more stylish way about the toy right in the title before anything else! ~blushes cute

I normally write my general feeling of the toy...and a pun or saying if it comes to me...I don't think you need to add the name of the toy in the title though..I rarely do.

I totally do the same thing. I try to be witty when I can be while still getting across what I thought of the product.

Okay...here goes! This will sound silly, but there is no consistent way I come up with titles. To me it is like naming a pet--you give it a name/title that fits the toy, review tone, your personality and make it catchy so people will read the review. Draw them in...don't let them pass your review up for a catchier title!!

I try to make my titles something personally witty.

To put it this way; anyone who reads my blog would find my titles here at EF a hoot.

I think that you forgot that "combination of" or "all of the above" options.

I voted clever pun, but a song, my feelings, pop culture reference, rhymes... basically anything that makes me giggle.

I stink when it comes to making a title. I wish I was more creative. I usually go with my overall thoughts of the item I'm reviewing.

I have no real way of titling it. Sometimes I know the title before it gets here and other times I don't think of one until the review is written. I do try to express my like or dislike in the title but other times it is a off the wall reference that comes to mind.

Choosing a title for my review is usually my favorite part. I would have like to choose more than one answer, though. I chose a clever pun but I also would do a song title if it matched how I felt about the toy.

I chose the last one. Mine depends really. Sometimes I use the toy title sometimes I come up with something funny. I think choosing the title is the hardest part of the review. You want something to catch people's attention.

I make sure that the tone of the title matches the review. For example, when my feeling toward the toy is negative, the title will show that.

I try to come up with a clever title but it's been harder and I tend to get to the point nowadays.

Humor.

I try to tie it in with pop culture references, or a pun. I like titles that do this, as well

I've only reviewed one toy, but I just tried to be direct about how I felt with the toy in the title. With all the vague puns on such a popular item with mixed reviews, it seemed like directness would actually help it stand out. It seemed to work.
