Calling all editors: Is it me, or are there a LOT of fake reviews showing up all of a sudden? I've seen more in the last week than I did through an entire previous rotation!

Nearly all of them, it seems. Shame.
I hate seeing the task market full of reviews that aren't genuine.
I agree, there are more this time than I have ever seen.

I'm new to editing, but this is insane! They are everywhere! I think we need to be extra diligent in catching these, and NOT publishing them. I even saw one that another editor had noted in the title that it was plagiarized, and then someone came in, edited it, and published it anyways. ???
I'm seriously concerned about what kind of impact this is going to have on the new points program. I mean, there are people coming in and submitting fake reviews over and over again, and getting 1000 points for each one. That has got to be bad for business, right? I was wondering if maybe it would be better if the points were posted to our accounts after our reviews are published, that ways those who plagiarize would not get any points for the fake reviews.

Yeah I've seen them...
I'll remove them from the task market tomorrow.

I've been seeing so many plagiarized reviews published by editors -- I have to check whether it's a plagiarized review on my own, before voting on most of them. Luckily, I don't have to do that with all the new reviews, because some were published by reliable editors such as you guys...keep up the good work!

I put a note in the title, but one guy repeatedly would take it out. However, a comment at the bottom of the review can't be removed by the "author" (I don't think they can), so this is where I will mark the fakes.

Yes, I saw you do that for 2 (I think), but one of them was just in the title. Unfortunately, someone decided to publish it anyway.

Thanks for noting it, I appreciate it. I think it would be great if the editors would note it in the title and on a comment until the administrator transfer function is working again.

I'm about ready to give up on checking the Task Market frequently. As far as I can tell, 90% or more of recently submitted reviews (that I've seen) are blatantly plagiarized. This is despicable and indescribably disappointing to see our program being abused like this. Now that Sammi is gone (I'm not blaming her at all; the circumstances are just unfortunate), it's hard to not feel we have been left at sea with a storm raging. Throw us a lifeline, please. We have NO designated admin to submit this deluge of plagiarized reviews to, they're clogging up the market, and they're wasting everyone's time. EF needs to do something about this. Editors cannot work to their potential like this. With a broken forward-to-admin button and no one else to turn to... this is a mess.
I caught and reported SIX plagiarized reviews yesterday, and all of them are still in the market despite me being fairly certain someone with admin rights got the message. The longer they're in the market, even noted and commented with the source link provided, the higher the risk of another plagiarized review getting published.

Evidently, all of our admins have left the company. I don't really think there is much we can do right now except to have integrity and not publish plagiarized material.

What a sorry situation.

I like the idea of putting "plagiarized" ; ; in the title, in addition to leaving a comment. I think it would be helpful to include the evidence (i.e, a link to the original review) in the comment.
This is what I'm going to do going forward, until we receive further guidance from Eden.

Getting points after being published is a great idea. I work hard on writing my own reviews and its not fair for others to get points for stealing someone elses hard work.

I have feeling these assholes doing the fake reviews are going to ruin it for the rest of us. I'm not even an editor this time around but this ticks me off.
05/15/2013
This is why I will not do the editing. I went to try it once and got denied that time and then I was kind of glad I did. There is too many issues and I don't want to be part of that. I feel bad for the editors and all the work you guys do with reviews. I hope they get it worked out for you soon.

I feel the same way. I work hard on my reviews, and love being so generously rewarded. It sucks because I feel like the real reviewers are going to be punished for the misdeeds of point farmers. I read reviews every day, and I've noticed that the general quality and standards have gone down. There are still some real gems and fab reviews, but I'm finding that they can be harder to find.

You got that right, general quality is slipping. I'd go into a rant here but I don't want to get all worked up, or piss someone off and get in trouble, so I'll just hush it. I've seen plenty reviews that aren't deserving of the 1000 points...

I have as well. I work hard on my reviews, and though some of my reviews I feel like I'm repeating myself in terms of caring for glass toys, I still try to do my best to make each one different. I know what you mean though, the people who are obviously farming for points should be punished rather than all of us.

Update: Every single one of the reviews flagged and reported by myself, Mikemanz, and others days ago are still lounging around the Task Market. The Market is not being policed at all. It's complete anarchy. Us editors can flag plagiarized reviews all we want, but at the end of day we have no real power. We cannot remove problematic reviews, nor can we forward them to anyone else.
The company does not care about us.

Scoping out the task market, I see that the reviews were published anyway.
Can you guys send me the user names please? And/or any links to the review itself. I vaguely remember the user names but I don't want to get it wrong. Thanks!

You get 500pts for catching a published plagriarized review, but nothing if you catch it when submitted to an editor(should be the same)...in fact, I think when I used to submit them to admin from the task market, you lose that review against your daily limit (so you can do 2 instead of 3 essentially). Perhaps that is tied to the broken button, but you lose points for doing the right thing.
It sucks that the submit to admin button is broken too.
