My big mistake- anyone else think that oil based lubes were not for silicone toys?

Contributor: Sangsara Sangsara
So Carrie Ann okayed another video for me today and she sent a little FYI to me

"Oil based lube is fine with silicone toys  Oil based can break down latex and other types of rubbers but is totally fine with silicone.  (Think cooking. You use silicone tools and pans and oil together all the time)"

I have done over 12 video reviews of silicone products where I have mentioned water- based lube only. In fact on several I said "no oil-based [either]" I can change the written reviews which I'm surprised no one noticed and commented on. I'm a 5.6 right now so all of my reviews are edited.
Is anyone else surprised to hear this or has anyone else made some major goof ups like this?

I specifically recommend water based lube for silicone, lest someone try oil based on a silicone composite that's labeled as silicone and have an issue.

EF has been strangely silent on the issue, which is why many believe it is not a safe combination. Also, oil is generally not recommended for vaginal use as it can potentially lead to an infection. Having said that, there are many contributors that do use oil based lubes vaginally with no issue what so ever. I've only ever used it anally.

I'm not sure if it is what you implied, but the editors are not supposed to comment on review content when editing unless the review contains information that is potentially dangerous. And as I said, many if not most contributors are not aware that oil can be used safely with silicone.

Yes, I've noticed that most contributors do not seem to be aware that oil-based lubes and silicone are fine together. And oddly, Eden's materials guide mentions only water-based lubes as compatible with silicone toys.

I try to always mention in my reviews that silicone toys are safe with water- and oil-based lubes, but I'm sure I forget sometimes. I know that oil-based lubes aren't really recommended, but there are many people here who use them regularly with no problem, so I try to remember to keep them in mind when reviewing.

I'm really glad you're posting this, because it will help get the word out. It's fun to learn new things isn't it? And we always learn the coolest stuff on Eden.

I try to keep it it safe by looking at the main product page. That way if I'm ever wrong, it didn't originate with me! LOL

Eden's materials guide says only water-based lubes as compatible with silicone toys. So that is why I thought this.

I always say to use waterbased lube on silicone toys in my reviews because that is what the product pages recommend. In practice though I use coconut oil on silicone toys. I have never had a problem. A couple weeks ago I went searching for a definitive answer on it. I couldn't find a lot of information here or on the internet in general. But I did find posts from Carrie Ann and Alan & Michelle that said oil based lubes are fine on silicone. With that in mind, and considering I've never had a problem, I'm going to continue using my coconut oil.

Okay thanx. I didn't mean it to sound like a complaint, I was just surprised. I meant both the Editors and the contributes that comment on the written reviews. I'm happy to b corrected in fact I think it's great that I can now use a lube in the bathtub with a silicone toy!!

I have also thought water based lubes were the way to go with silicone because that's what Edens material guide says...in fact this is why I primarily use water based lubes. I'm confused now...

This just drives me nuts! Never could understand why the EF material guide does not include oil based lubes for silicone. My only thinking is that there are times when the material listed as "Silicone" is in fact "TPR silicone" in which case oil based should not be used. I think it is a CYA type deal or something.
