How do you show your measurements?

Contributor: Nazaress Nazaress
So far, my measurements have always just been written. Depending on the product (usually depending on if I'm able to use the Extended Format or not), I'll write the measurements into my paragraph and then directly after that, I'll have an easy-to-read list of the measurements again. I also have pictures but I've always just shown the pictures and had my measurements elsewhere. I think from now on, I'm going to put my measurements ON the picture so everyone can see what I mean exactly when I say "so-and-so part is so-and-so length and so-and-so width". I might also keep my measurements in written form (because what about the visually-impaired who use screen-readers?) but I think this will improve my reviews from now on.

So, how do YOU show your measurements? Do you put them on your pictures? Do you write them out? Do you even say what the measurements are at all?

I do a little of both. I put it in the written section and on the pictures.

I have a picture of the product with the measurements done up on it. Then I type them out in a paragraph. I started doing this early on because I'm visual and saying "1.5" diameter" doesn't mean as much as seeing something to me.

I think that adding the measurements to the photographs is a really good idea. I've seen people do it in the past and I appreciate it.

I don't always mention measurements in reviews, because most of the time they're clearly written on the product information page, so it doesn't bear repeating. If there's a notable discrepancy between the measurements recorded on the page and the reality of the product, then I always make sure to highlight this in a review.

I always do, because sometimes the measurements may be a little off and sometimes they don't have measurements for all of the parts of the product.

I think putting them on the pictures is useful but always remember that it doesn't replace the written part.

Not everyone looks at pictures and people with visual difficulties may be using text to speech and not be able to see the pictures clearly or at all.

Exactly. That's why I said "I might also keep my measurements in written form (because what about the visually-impaired who use screen-readers?)". "Might" for me is almost always a "will". Lol. I intended to keep the measurements in a written form, as well. I'm just trying to figure out if I should keep them in my paragraph, in my list, or both.

I'm not good enough with photo editing to do it on the photos. I just about know how to crop and resize and upload.

I really dislike pictures with measurements or other writing all over them - turns me off going any further. I like seeing images in reviews, but I'd MUCH rather the measurements be placed under or above the image. Much more enjoyable, but that's just me.

Really? What if the measurements are unobtrusive (as in, not covering a lot) and the measurements are ALSO written. Plus there are pictures WITHOUT writing? Would that be acceptable to you?

@ Carrie Ann: No problem! You've got a lot on your plate.

That usually happens because the hosting site removes the pictures or they, themselves, delete them or move them. EF hosts pictures now to avoid this happening.

I think it's a good idea to also write them out, though, because some people are visually-impaired and use screen-readers. They wouldn't be able to hear this part of your review because it wouldn't be in text-form.

I've put the measurements on the pictures a few times, but I find it to be an extra step that I don't always feel like taking so I don't often do it.
