How to handle items identical to EF items, but actually purchased elsewhere?

Contributor: LQ LQ
Hiya all-
Just curious how ya'll would deal with an item identical to one sold here at EF, but actually purchased elsewhere. (Got it before I decided on EF as "home.")

In most cases it wouldn't come up, but with the item I'm working on the packaging is different from how other reviewers have described the EF packaging.

Do you feel it's somehow dishonest to do that review? (I don't, so long as I've researched & made certain the item is indeed the same & not a knockoff). If we're talking about only a minor issue like packaging should I say something like "Item is identical to the EF item, but was purchased elsewhere & has different packaging?" Do I just kind of skim over that bit? I feel kind of rude referring to purchasing elsewhere, even without naming names, & am wondering how to avoid that.

How would you all handle this? And would you find a comment of that nature tasteless in a review you were reading or not pay much attention? Thanks!

It's perfectly fine to review an item purchased elsewhere as long as it is the exact same item that EF carries. You don't need to even mention tat you purchased it elsewhere. Also, packaging is not a required section so you can simply not include that information. I hope that helps.

Yep; as long as it's an identical product, you're good to go on it.

If you'd LIKE, you can mention that you purchased it at another retail location, and describe your packaging, but as Kindred said (I'm giving you a dirty look, Kindred, I thought we discussed this whole "being right and posting before me" thing last night) you can skip that whole section if you are so inclined!

The first two reviews I wrote were on toys I'd picked up elsewhere, but I was sure they were identical. I didn't mention packaging at all in my first one (I used the standard format, and I didn't think anyone cared what packaging was like.) On the second one I just said something like "I threw the packaging away years ago when I got this, but I only remember it being minimal." Which was true.

Packaging is so irrelevant to me that I almost never mention it, though. I never get questions about it in comments, either (and if I did, I would start adding it). For a descriptive review I guess packaging is important to include just so it's included on the site---but not your own product review, if the packaging doesn't influence your use.

Ahh, cool, thanks all. Appreciated. Yeah, only place I can see packaging really mattering would be if it's special. (I.E. Evolved items in the pretty storage tins). In this case it's box vs. plastic bag, so I'll just not worry about it.

I actually wrote a review on the Slave collar recently that we purchased from EF and it had no packaging whatsoever, but when I went to read another review on it from another EF user, they said theirs came in a plastic clam shell case. This person's review was 2 years ago, so the product packaging may have changed. Another person commented on my review and said they received theirs in a plastic bag. I don't see it as being a problem as long as your honest.

I have a few. I mentioned that I didn't order them on here, so there may be minor differences. In the packaging perhaps.

I have quite a few products we ordered off other adult sites prior to joining Edens. Wish we would have known about this site way earlier!!! However, I do review the like items and do not discuss packaging unless it is unique to the item.
