For those of you who have reviews that auto-publish, do you feel comfortable working without an editor? Is it more of a plus or a negative to not have someone check over your work?

I suppose my answer doesn't really count, since my reviews have always auto published. I started reviewing before we put the editor system into place, and by the time we had that my rank was high enough to be an editor rather than having my reviews edited. That being said, at first I was super nervous that I would forget something when I was writing my reviews, but I gained more confidence as I went along.

Yeah, same here. HAHA! I feel a bit odd answering this, however, yes, I'm fairly comfortable. I'm actually MORE comfortable, knowing the quality and skill of some editors...

It always does help having a second set of eyes, though! Typos are hard to catch, and everyone makes them.

I have stuck around with my mentor cause I wasn't able to take the 'training wheels' off. I prefered to have someone double check my reviews for any mistakes. I always aim to do a perfect job so it has always suited me.
I have gained some confidence lately and publish some of my own without any issues.
I still prefer my dvd reviews to be looked over.

I am in the same situation as Sam and Sir. I was writing reviews before there were editors. Mine always self published and by the time there were editors, I had a high enough rank to not have to go through an editor. I feel more comfortable doing them myself as I always did.

I usually go back and edit a few things, which is hard about DRs because they take weeks to publish sometimes.
After a few self edited reviews, you'll gain more confidence, Kkay.

I don't believe mine have ever had an editor either. I used to have my husband read and do my editing for me in the beginning, but I have come to realize I do just fine by myself. After a while, you just begin to go with your gut. I find if I read from the end of my review backward to the beginning, I can find spelling errors which spell check neglected; if I leave my review for a day and come back to it the next, my grammatical errors are obvious to me.

Not having an editor doesn't bother me because I usually write the review in word and then transfer it over. Still, I'm a firm believer that having a second set of eyes is always a good thing. I've messaged a review over to another contributor for them to give it a look-see and when their comments and suggestions came through, I realized I needed a complete rewrite of the document and I had left out vital pieces of information. Seriously opened my eyes, that's for sure. (I've been through the mentor program, but I didn't review an item as detailed and intricate as this particular product.)

I don't have issues without editors; I usually cover everything that needs to be covered, and read it at least once to make sure it makes sense.

I have also never had my reviews edited, because my rank was over 5.5 when the program was started. I think I do a good job of editing my own work, although I'm sure there are a few errors that have slipped through.

not really, but I make due.
