Do use software for picture editing or just the simple one form the camera?

Contributor: js250 js250
I just bought Printmaster--but do not have it installed yet. I am going to start playing with this for my EF pics--hopefully--when I get home next week. I was just wondering what everyone else uses....

Currently I am just using my Samsung picture software and it is not doing the job I want.

I have Photoshop and it's good for a lot of things. It's a little work to learn, though.

For simple things like resizing, color correction, etc., I use Irfanview, an excellent free photo viewer with a number of editing tools.

Another good, fairly easy to use (and also free) option is Google's Picasa. I used to upload a lot of pics when I had more spare time, and I played around with Picasa's editing features a little bit then, but now I mostly just use Irfanview, or if I want to do something a little more complicated, I use Photoshop.

I've never used the software that came with my camera, not even to transfer the pics to the computer. I just take the card out of the camera and stick in my computer's SD slot. MUCH simpler.

I use my DSLR for almost EVERY picture I take, and I always shoot raw. There is no way for me to do anything with the pictures without loading them into Adobe Bridge or Photoshop, and they always need cropped and often I have to adjust the contrast to get my pictures to look real (as they often come out of the camera very flat looking)

I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 but for some reason it hasn't been opening for me so I've been using Pixlr online until I can fix it.

This is a real great forum post. Thanks Steff I was also wondering what everyone used. I need something more. My Windows 8 laptop did not come with the Windows Photoshop that is what I used on the Windows 7. I have to look to see what I have available and then they say I may have to purchase it if I want that back. I hear Photoshop is good but it takes a lot to learn. I may give it a go and see how hard it really is.

I just use the camera on my smart phone. But I take the time set up the shot so it looks nice and is in focus.

Gimp--do you mean gimpy? I had that but never opened it to see what it does. The photo programs are designed similarly to my sign program, so that would not be an issue. Just the differences!!

I use Photoshop for most everything. Gimp is a pretty decent program, too.

I crop in Paint, but that's about it. I don't like filters or borders, so I don't need a lot of editing, and my camera (until it decided to stop working) takes very great pictures, so not a lot of touching up is really needed.

If I do more to edit my photos than just cropping, I usually use Microsoft Paint, otherwise I snap pictures until they turn out right and only need to be cropped a bit.
