Descriptive Reviews--Are They Easier To Write?

Contributor: js250 js250
Since the DR's focus more on the item being reviewed and less on your opinions and feelings about the item, do you find them easier or harder to write about?

-Why do you feel they are easier/harder to write?
-Do you fill out the Personal Comments/Experience sections on these reviews more than you do on regular reviews?

I write all my reviews as though they were DRs, really. Although, the DRs where there is little to no product info on the page I generally right much more detailed product specs and so forth.

The only thing I don't like is that I don't get as long to test the product. So I go ahead and fill out the Experience section, but I don't feel like it's as detailed or complete as some of my other reviews.

I agree with Indiglo. I try to write all my reviews like that as well. I keep the actual review factual, and use the Experience section for my personal experience and opinions. So, they are nearly the same as my others. I do try to make sure I don't overload on photos for DRs, as it was mentioned that you really don't want DRs to rely on them, or have too many.

I agree that the time limit makes it difficult to be sure that my personal reflections are as complete as I'd like.

Sometimes I think they're harder to write, especially when the product is bad.

I agree with this!!! It is hard to be neutral with a bad item!

I like doing reviews either way

Mostly it's pretty easy to write DRs for me just because I try to write my other reviews the same way, only adding my opinions and such in the Personal Comments and Experience sections. It is quite a bit harder to write a good DR on a product that's just terrible but it's doable, it just may take a little longer to get it right.

I think at times they can be slightly more challenging to write.

I haven't written one, but from the ones I have read it seems like they would be more difficult because you have to be more formal. In my reviews I'm free to just be me, and that's easier.

I find describing fairly easy, so I guess it's easier. Sometimes the reasons whyt I personally do or do not like a toy are more difficult to articulate. I don't have to do that with DRs.

sometimes I don't fill out the personal section at all, but I try to if the toy left any specific sort of impression.

I'm in this camp as well--though I've never written a DR, I save most of my personal opinions for those last two sections.

DR reviews are easier to write because you are describing the item without your own bias. I have found it helpful to fill out the personal comments sections because it lets the reader know how the item worked for me, and I have gotten negative feedback on reviews where the personal experience section was lacking, so I know people are looking for that.
