I like it because it gives new reviewers an idea of what as awesome review is like and something to aspire too. For me it alerts me to reviewers I haven't previously noticed and makes sure that those 'really unique' reviews don't go by unread. For instance occasionally a super funny review will come out- or just one that gives a different view on how to write a review. Academically I do fine - if I'm thorough and complete each section as well as ad pictures I usually get mostly "very useful" ratings but I want to learn how to make my reviews stand out and perhaps be a bit different , especially if I want to continue reviewing on a blog as well. The rumble gives me great ideas for inspiration which I appreciate.
#Rumble - How interested are you? (everyone's feedback needed)

I really enjoy the rumbles. Recently I haven't been on the site as much as I was before because a lot of life changes were going on, so I haven't read that many reviews to nominate or vote for. Before life interrupted, I loved seeing the weekly rumbles. I rarely nominated unless one really stood out to me, but always voted. I've been nominated a few times and won once and I think it helps me strive to be a better writer on each review thinking just maybe someone will see the review and think it is rumble worthy. I would hate for it to go away.

I like the rumble. It exposes me to some products I normally would not look at. I do wish that those nominated would be reviewed by editors though. Some have many errors in them. Other than that small suggestion, I think it is a great way to recognize reviewers for their hard work.
04/26/2013
I like it, but I don't usually have enough time to read through the reviews. I also think there are so many reviews posted now that unless you're one of the people who the nominators are following your review doesn't have a chance of being picked. That's why it seems like a popularity contest sometimes. I don't think it's intentional.

I am not a huge fan of the Rumbles. I don't mind them, but I am not a fan of some of the people involved.
Many times I get a message that I just received a new EF mail and it turns out to be some random member saying something like, "check out my review and vote for me in the rumble".
I do agree that sometimes it feels like the Rumbles are just a popularity contest for various members egos. But I do know that some members have gone out of their way to make it less so.
Personally, I stopped looking at the Rumble a long while ago. I do feel that there needs to be a change to it. Maybe a ranking Rumble? Something like maybe non-Advanced Rumble and Advanced Rumble?

I'm new to the site and don't know what the rumble is.

Honestly, I have no idea what this is. I'm new to Eden, though, so that's probably at least part of it.

Just found out what Rumble is and thats super awesome and helpful!

It feels like a popularity contest.
It doesn't even seem worth voting or participating in the Rumble.
I barely look for it.

What about just having a link to the nomination page? If you can't nominate from the review page, at least making it easier to go there right while you are thinking about it would help. It would also serve as a reminder to nominate!

I actually very much love the Rumbles and used to read them every week. It's just been insanely busy for me working full-time and traveling for family quite often, that I only get to check on them occasionally now.

One idea to improve the Rumble process for me (which would be hard to set up, but make them more "fair") would be a way to check if the voting community member had actually read all of the reviews, instead of just voting for the more popular member. (Yes, by the way.. I am a pessimist and an INTJ, I see flaws in everything. ) less

As for me, I only just looked at and figured out the Rumble a few days ago, for the first time. I will definitely try to keep an eye on it and make nominations, though an easier way to find all of the new reviews for the week would be extremely useful!

Hey everyone! This week we will be starting weekly Rumble #184. I posted the very first Rumble on September 25th, 2009. It is pretty crazy to see that it has last over 3 years now. With how much the community has grown over the last few years it is kind of disappointing how the lack of participation in the Rumble has actually dramatically decreased. I was thinking that maybe by polling you guys, we could figure out why activity has gone down, and maybe improve things.Also... if you have ANY suggestions or ideas for improvement, please let me know.

I really love the Rumble! It's things like this that keep me coming back regularly. I've nominated a few times, and I would like to be more involved. I think that it's difficult to avoid nominating the same people time after time because those few people write really exceptional reviews, but I've tried to nominate newer people instead.
It is difficult to keep up with every single review that has been written in order to choose the best newer contributors' reviews but I think it's important. Even the top 10 reviewers started somewhere, they didn't just give birth to those spectacular reviews from day one. Well, I assume they didn't. OK, maybe a couple of them probably did.
I think that a contributor should only be able to win once every 3 months or something similar. There should be a list of those winners posted, or even better, if somehow there could be a page set up that lists just the eligible reviews (author hasn't won in 3 months, or whatever time frame works), and as mentioned previously there could be a nomination button on each review, it would make it so much easier keep track of them all and to effectively nominate the best ones.
I think this could be a worthwhile program that would encourage newer reviewers to really do a great job, while bringing exposure to more reviews (which means exposure to more products) each week. This could make the newer people feel more positive about their chances of being nominated and even of winning, and also give them a realistic goal to try to attain in terms of review quality. It can get discouraging seeing those Lamborghini reviews week after week when you're still still just trying to trade in your Toyota for a Lexus.

Here is a thought....what about awarding the nominator points as well as the winner? Then you would get more people interested in nominating winning reviews....
I don't know what this would do for programming--but how about having a separate section of EF for all the contests. The Forums can get overwhelming and also the thread for the Rumble can get lost in the shuffle if people automatically minimize the section. Many do that to make more space for the forum discussion area.

Since this thread, I'm actually a lot more active in following the Rumbles. I've now nominated reviews for two Rumbles and voting regularly.

I thought the Rumble was one of the featured threads in the past, which kept it toward the top of the forum with the announcements and such, but I notice that for the last few weeks it hasn't been. That could account for the drop in participation as well.

It's just a subsection of a main section.
We do generally put up a banner in the slider on the forum main page and put the rumbles in the featured section, too.
It kind of freaks me out that so many people have never seen it.
(Sorry to have made this a reply when only part of it was really a reply. The rest is just me babbling away...)

As for national elections, I and most people I know would absolutely turn out every year if they were held that often.

I have enough of a challenge trying to keep up with one week of reviews to figure out some nominations - if it was longer than that, for me it would be a very daunting task! Also, having it more often gives more chances to win, and there are so many reviewers who (I assume) would like a chance. I really like having just one winner because it makes the voting easier, for me anyway, to choose just one rather than having to rank multiple winners.
