Valentine's Day is a stupid holiday. I've always felt this way whether single or in a relationship. Its stupid, commercial and if you need a holiday to treat your SO special then you are doing it wrong.

I couldn't care less about Valentine's Day, and I find that most of the people celebrating Single Awareness Day are incredibly rude about it to the point of insulting their friends in relationships and going out of their way to make people miserable. If you're not going to celebrate, just keep silent and let the people who are celebrating do so in peace.

Valentine's Day was never about a romantic partner for me, as I spent my first 19 Valentine's Day's single. They were always about family for me. My mom and dad always got my sister and I cards and candies and it was adorable. =)

I hate Valentine's Day. I hated it when I was in a relationship and I hate it even more now that I am not in one. Most the people around here rub it in my face that they are married, etc. Yes, torment the lonely person with an incurable and painful illness, who doesn't have a good way of getting out and meeting men. If I sound bitter, it is because I am. If you are in a relationship and you love Valentine's Day, good for you, just try not to rub it in the loners like me faces please.

But like Maegal up there, my parents do nice things like buy me cute stuff on the day. It is a sweet gesture, but an unnecessary one.

It's also White Day in some Asian countries! And has been so for longer, as far as I know. Men who received gifts from women on Valentine's Day are supposed to return the favor with similar gifts -- much sweeter, in my opinion. "Steak and blowjob day" makes me roll my eyes since just the name reinforces so many gender stereotypes.

Single or in a relationship I've never had a problem with this day. Yes its just a Hallmark holiday, but it's seen as a day to celebrate with your love. When I was single I always took the day to share with myself. I'd eat my favorite meal and do something I enjoyed, get a message, get my hair done, a manicure&pedicure and camp up in my room with my favorite snacks and watch my favorite movies. I wish everyone could look at it like that and enjoy the day single or taken (: No reason to beat yourself up over a small holiday.

I actually don't mind being single on V day. it's just a stupid commercial holiday anyways. I'll usually hang out with my girls and go clubbing or something. or I'll just go about my usual routine. hell I hardly ever know what day it is anyways

No reason to go all nutcase in changing a sweet little celebration day, by hanging baggage on it. If you are really single and WANT to "not be" at Valentines day, then YOU buy some chocolates, a card and invite someone you like to "be your valentine". ANYONE can do this...and most of the time, at least you WILL NOT spend the day alone and depressed.

From that perspective, then can call it a dozen names, so long as they can sell cards, make restaurant reservations and hawk overpriced candy to the MOST people possible.

Awareness's are usually about disorders, diseases, and tragedies. Being single is neither of them.

That's like saying should it be "Christmas" and "Family Gift Giving Day". Don't like the holiday, just don't celebrate.

I don't like valentines day as a couple, nor did I as a single! It's such an obvious commercial day that I get a little disgusted. I wish it would go away in general!

Or how about, "Care for your Neighbor Day?" I agree too much importance has been placed on this day and even with a partner I've often found it lonely. Oh sure, I get the well meaning card but all that candlelight dinner, chocolates and flowers only happens in the movies. I will be working that day and I'm sure I'll see many flowers delivered to the office to many except me.
