Creating a fool out of yourself in social situations... advice please!!

Contributor: catsin catsin
I'm a tad bit socially awkward--have been my whole life. I'm attractive enough and can feign confidence enough that they don't see me as awkward, but inside I'm stumbling over the correct and incorrect way to go about social situations.

SO, just recently I was with a new group of friends enjoying a night of light partying. I made a fool of myself in front of what would be considered the "leader" of the pack. Up until that point she had only initiated my company when she was wasted and wanted someone to flirt with, which is what lead to the foolishness.

I apologized the next day but haven't heard anything from her since.

I feel awkward about just going over there and pretending like nothing happened, but I really enjoyed everyone's company. I'm afraid the "leader" may have silently exiled me, but because of my social incompetence, I'm not even sure if that's possible.

I have very few close friends where I currently live and to lose them is more than unfortunate.

What would you do/have done in such situations? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Hey Catsin! (love your name)
I am also super awkward! We can do a blind leading the blind bit...

If you really want to hangout with these people and be "cool"
the best advice anyone has ever given me is
"fake it until you make it"

This only works if you really do want to hangout with them and feel that your true shyness/awkwardness will get in the way.

Sometimes being our socially awkward selves we will force coolness and embarrass at a party by drinking a ton and...
-puking all down our fronts
-crying and texting
-calling all the exes on our phone contacts
-waking up in a haze of embarrassment unable to identify whom we are cuddled up against (naked)

So in summary, don't drink and think before you say anything! Not saying all those little things that pop into your head gives you the added "coolness" of being the silent mysterious one.

Remember they are lucky to know you and this "leader" gal obviously thinks you are cool. She drinks to get the courage up to flirt with you!

If you can't be yourself with these people and only one has a functioning independent brain (aka the leader), they aren't real friends.
