we have never attended an event or gone to a club but we have swung privately a few times. I have an issue feeling comfortable or getting 'in the mood' with people I don't know and trust. Now Sigel prefers swinging because he is in it for the sex. We compromised our way into polyamory, where I can have the heart connection I need and he can have the experiencial connection he craves. We also got a beautiful life partner and a son out of the arrangement!
I think swinging can be an amazing shared experience in a sound and confident relationship. Just be very aware what you are looking for in the deal and do your homework.

Thank you for your feedback, we both are interested in having other partners, but would definitely prefer it to be something similar to what you two have worked out.
