Many of my friends in college were in poly relationships and it seemed to work for them at the time, but I am curious as to how many of these poly relationships last, and how they are carried out later into adulthood.

I had to google "Poly Relationship" as I never heard of it before. It sounds like in college they would be considered "Players". I don't see how in today world something like that would work or last. I believe even the Mormons have problems. (nothing against Mormons mind you.)
If I'm off base on this then I guess someone will have to explain poly relationships. Perhaps if there are some members experiencing poly's they can tell us about it. Joke: should we give them a polygraph test first ? Hey I said it was a joke.

Yes I can positively say that in the real world outside of college the poly relationship does indeed work. I have two partners and children with both of them. We currently live under the same roof and do so quite harmoniously...at least no less harmoniously than when it was just two of us under one roof. The problems are the exact same and not magnified like some people would have you believe. Our children are happy, well socialized, confident and looking forward to starting relationships of their own with the understanding that there is no such thing as a one and only. They are looking forward to finding out what works for them confident in the notion that their three parents love them and respect their choices even if we may not agree with them.

Polyamory runs the gambit across the board of religious, socioeconomic level, and race it is definitely not limited to religious polygyny (many wives). My husband and I are pagan and our life partner is Catholic for instance.
