Men and Video Games

I haven't seen a discussion about this yet, so I figured this might be fun to talk about, so opinions from the ladies AND men

So, my boyfriend and I have been together for 10 months. We have lived together for 8 months and of course there are many compromises when you plan to be in a relationship for the long haul. He is very much into video games and I knew this before we began dating. I, personally, am not much of a gamer, and I've had negative experiences in the past with men playing video games and neglecting me or ignoring me, but this time it is a little bit different. I don't mind his playing because he always goes the extra little step like talking to me while he plays, and because my computer which I spend most of my free time on, and his computer which he plays his games on, are next to each other, or he will reach over between levels and rub my shoulders or give me a little kiss.

I think if more guys did this their girls wouldn't complain so much about their gaming! But, I want opinions from the girls, and from the guys!

GIRLS: Do you have a problem with your partner playing video games, if so why, and if not what does he do to go that extra mile to make you feel like you don't come second to his gaming?

GUYS: Does your partner have a problem with your gaming, and if so tell me about it and if she does, maybe this discussion will help you find a way to keep both the gaming action happening and your girl happy

I think that if I played video games very often, my wife would have a problem. I only play with my kids, and we only play as a treat. I think part of being an adult, is knowing when to stop playing. There is nothing wrong with enjoying something that is fun, even though not productive; as long as you are doing everything else that goes along with being an adult. If I have nothing else to do, I will enjoy playing a game without the kids.

I play with my partner.. we play WoW and we also have a designated "date night" where we spend the whole night together

I have, though, had boyfriends in the past who totally ignored me while gaming which sucks.. Even two gamers don't always get along.. It takes a special connection and a special relationship

I play, though my partner is more of a gamer than I am. He can be on Everquest for hours and hours, though it's not really a problem right now. We have our alone time, and he'll do little things during his game like chatting and such. ^^

I play way more games than my boyfriend ever has. It was an issue for awhile in our relationship. So ive stopped and will play rarely now. My ps3 only gets used for bluray now.

My boyfriend has actually stopped playing them as much since we've been dating. It doesn't bother me that he plays them, but sometimes it annoys me if I'm trying to read or something, and he keeps distracting me with it or something. But I'm sure I annoy him often too.

My boyfriend enjoys playing video games but it doesn't bother me at all. I have hobbies that take up some of my time, and he should to! I don't play video games, but if he wants to, all the power to him.

I really enjoy playing video games, but haven't really played them for several months now. When a new game comes out that I've been waiting for, I may go a little overboard with the amount of time I spend playing it, but my wife is always very understanding and helps me stay balanced. She will even play along with me sometimes!

Never owned videogames and never will. I can't even imagine preferring videogames to girls.
