Do you have irritating inlaws?

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine
My mother in law can be one of the coldest, selfish and downright disrespectful person I have ever met sometimes. The woman just....grrr lol.

Let me put it this way...She "Shhh"es people. Yes, She says "Shh" when you're talking too loud. She did this to me in my house last time they were visiting and I thought I was going to go apeshit lol. My house is loud, I have kids, there was family visiting and we were having fun and talking loud....I couldn't take it anymore.

I told her "This is my house, please do not shush me again, its rude, and if you don't like how loud it is here, then next time stay at home!" lol. Kinda harsh, but damnit she has been doing it to me for three years. My camels back broke lol.

Too harsh? Just right?

Do your inlaws do things that downright irk the crap out of you? have you voiced your opinions or confronted them? How did it go?

I live with my in laws and they are the messiest people I have ever met. Like hoarder status. Truly disgusting. I clean everything when they are out of the house, all the time, and never get any thanks and they never try to help me keep it clean.

I never say anything, though. :/

I used to live with mine too. A word of caution...Seriously say something. Gently, but say something. I had a similar problem with my inlaws (not the messy part tho) and I let it build up until one day when they were arguing with me, it ALL came out lol. Lets just say it wasn't purdy! I would seriously say something. Or say something to your partner and see if they can help

I feel so sorry for you. My mother in law lives a couple hours away and she is nice. Sounds like you handled the situation like I would too. Next time, don't wait so long to say something though!

Ooh Trust me, I have been VERY open with this one LOL.

She has done a few things that drive me bonkers and I have come out and told her "Ya know, that was a real bitchy thing to do" or "Hey, do you think that maybe next time you want to check your words before they slip through your lips?" Oh yeah, I've gone there lol. She is just downright nasty sometimes though when she talks to people. My mom is afraid of her cause she always has this look of irritation on her face LMAO. At my wedding, my grandmother was afraid to approach her. I said "Don't worry gram, she is naturally just bitchy looking" lol.

I'm not actually married (Same sex marriage is illegal in my state), but I consider my girlfriend's parents my in laws. I love them. They aren't irritating at all to me. Her mom likes to call us a lot, but I think she just likes to feel involved in our lives, and I'm okay with that.

I have a wonderful Mother in Law and brother's in law. I got lucky to marry into a really awesome family. Hubby also doesn't have any issues with the in laws.

I only have one inlaw and that is my FIL. I get along with him really well. My MIL passed away in 2009. We had our issues but also got along pretty well too.

I have never met my mother-in-law (FIL is deceased); she lives in Nigeria with the rest of his family.

They're not inlaws yet, but my girlfriends family can be very aggravating at times. To be fair though, my family is way crazier, so it works out.

I actually like my mother-in-law (except for her political views! LOL) It's her kids that drive me crazy. Okay, I DID marry one, and she is great!!!! But her sisters, well at least ONE of them.

Well, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your relatives.

I don't like my in-laws, my wife knows this. I play along though to keep the peace. I try to avoid them when I can. For a long time it was impossible though. They had mandatory family nights, yes-mandatory, that if you didn't go to you got shit for not being there. Thankfully that died out.

Hopefully, one day we will move far-far-far away from them.
