I'm a lesbian, so it's always a girl doing the asking! But in hetero relationships, I think it shouldn't matter. Nor do I think the "butch" should always ask out the "femme" or any of that nonsense. Just do your thing. Same with opening doors and paying the check, etc. Don't stick to an antiquated ritual because it's what you think you're "supposed" do, just find what works for you and your partner. If it follows the convention, cool, but if not, equally cool. Don't follow convention for it's own sake, just do what makes you happy. Write your own rules.
