What are the current "must do's" if picking up a date for the first time?

We used to not only take flowers, but would wash the car (clean it out very well, in fact), be sure we had on fresh from the washer cloths, have just showered, and made sure we had a well filled credit card/or wallet, to allow for any "surprise" spending without having to think about it, during the evening.

Has any of that changed in the years since I have been on the date scene?

Haha I think most of those are still nice to do. Personally, I don't need flowers and I've never expected/had a date pay for me.

If you're picking up a date in a car then it's nice to open the door for them.

I think the flower "rule" has been discontinued - I never got flowers, and I don't know anyone else who had on first dates, either.

Be on time. Being late is respect-declining thing, and you're not being cool by doing it.

If a guy goes out of his way to get me flowers, be on time (or early), shower, shave, clean his car, open my door, and offer to pay for me I always tell him to personally thank his mother for raising someone who is actually worth having a relationship with

I've never got flowers on a first date. Being on time is major. Personally, not coming to the door to "pick up" your date is a major turn off. I hate when a guy texts and says I'm outside, come out. Be willing to pay but also willing to split the bill, open doors,wear clean clothes and be freshly showered, don't too much cologne, have fresh breath, and don't push for a kiss at the end of date.
