This week we've had disasters all over my area and in my family. Serious things happened and my sister is so devastated and broken hearted! At the moment, I'm working in my community to help those who lost their homes this week in the tornadoes we had, but I know there's more than just feeding and helping them.
My sister had a very devastating thing happen during the tornadoes and she nearly lost her boyfriend. She's in her 30's and is totally crushed. He was in ICU for a few days, but was released from the hospital and his family isn't allowing him to see her and he's too hurt to leave.
I know it sounds small, but she's devastated and I don't know how to help! She has no-one. The family isn't speaking to her right now due to the way her marriage fell apart which is terrible, but I need to help my sister. I know small things go a long way. When we people offered us water & a hot shower this week, it made my day. Even though we didn't take it. It meant everything for people to offer.
Can anyone tell me what has or would help you if you were in a devastating situation? What are some things I can do to make them feel better? We didn't lose our home in the tornado, but tomorrow I'll be helping those who did and I honestly want to know if any of you have any ideas on things to help lighten the loads on both sitations; the tornadoe victims and my sister's situation.
Once my sister sent me a bear and flowers to my school anonymously after I had a terrible issue in my life and it made my day. I want to be here for her, but I want to help take her mind off of it and help this all to go easier while she's moving on. I also have no idea what I can say or do to help the ones who lost their homes in the disaster. I'll be cooking and fixing plates, but to me, words mean everything to.
I would appreciate any help. Have any of you went through similar situations? Our town is seriously in ruins and there are tons doing without. Our area hasn't ever had disasters and we have no shelters and were not prepared.
