I've been watching the show on MTV called CATFISH and I was curious to see how many of you have had a situation similar to theirs. Have you met them in person or not? Have you been surprised to see who you have really been talking to all this time? Have you talked about marriage, kids, life together?
Have you dated or had a relationship online that got serious?

I sorta had that but it happened really fast. I started talking to him early november, met him mid november, moved in end of november, broke up last night.

I was engaged to my ex-husband within three days of meeting online. We met 9 months later, and married nine months after that, then divorced ten years later.
I was quite unhappy with the whole thing.

I have met a few people online, not necessarily dated them. They've all turned out to be who they said they were but I found quirks that were overlooked online were glaring in reality (for most).

Been there done that and have the marriage license to prove it
I met a guy online he came down 4 months after we met, he then moved down 2 months after visiting and we were married a month an a half he moved down to where I was. An I have been trying to get my divorce for almost 2 years. I don't think I could do the online thing ever again!!!

I met my partner of 6 years on an online game server I used to frequent. I was playing pool and he was an opponent. We struck up a conversation and it really went from there. After a few months of talking via the occasional phone calls, online chat and no webcam (he lived in an area with poor cell phone service and had an old computer) I moved to Florida for about 3 years and then we moved back to my home state and have been here together for 3 years. So far so good! I still marvel at the odds of us both being online in that particular game room at that exact moment. In our situation there was no misrepresentation. He was the gender, age, race, name and person who he said he was and the same went for me. I'm sure that's not always the case though. It's so easy to be someone else online.

Yeah, this is the situation I'm in with my current bf. We met online, and he was on the other side of the country so I didn't expect him to talk to me for very long, but we ended up clicking and I went to see him and spend a month with him over the summer, and I'm planning to spend the whole summer with him this year. I wasn't surprised to meet him as we'd video chatted on skype a lot so I knew what he looked like. We have talked about a future together, but we haven't been together for even a year yet and I'm still in school, so we have plenty of time to wait and figure it out.

No, and I would never want to. Call me old fashioned, but I need to have actual physical contact with somebody.

Oh my gosh I LOVE Catfish!!!!!
I have dated guys I met online. And they have been incredibly awesome relationships actually. I was always very safe about it. Talk for a while learn their story. Google them. Require a picture of them with my name hand written on a piece of paper. Require a video of them doing the hokey pokey in a purple shit (that was always just funny!), always meet in a public place with a friend placed nearby in case anything went wrong.
Things get weird if you go months and months without meeting and seeing each other. I don't think I could ever do that. Like the guy the other day who hadn't ever met the girl and had talked for four years on Catfish...insane!

No. I wouldn't be against it, but I've never had the need to use that. There are a lot of people my age in the area I live.

nope, I am very apprehensive about meeting people face to face that I met online.

nope, no dating. i do have a friend I met online about 6 years ago who I've never personally met but we have skyped many times so I know it's him lol.

I went all the way to England to meet someone, and there was good chemistry and we could have been perfect for each other. But in the end, the complications got the better of me. I am glad it never came to be, because the biggest complication of all was meeting my husband. Mr. England is now married to a former friend of mine, and I am happy as I could be for them, but they both refuse to speak to me anymore.
