I'm glad you gave the option of voting for several options since he was many different things to people. For me, he was one of the greatest entertainers and artists in my lifetime. His lifestyle in the past few years may have been a bit strange and controversial to many (including me) but that doesn't dispute the fact that he contributed alot to the music industry and enhanced many people's lives.

To me he is a sad example of a childhood ruthlessly slaughtered to feed the ego of an obsessed parent. He was a talent, no one can deny that but I think along the way the person was forgotten and all that was left was the voice. When that happens nothing good can come out of it. I pray his kids surviving parents will show better restraint and perhaps his legacy will be redeemed.
All the terrible accusations and all the medical problems and still he was probably the least understood person on the face of the planet. It just makes me sad.

I guess "Eccentric" covers it, but his weird ass change to white is (sadly) what he began to mean to me.

My parents had very different tastes, so I got to listen to a lot of different albums, but I used to ask my mother to play Bad for me CONSTANTLY when I was growing up. When I was finally old enough to operate a radio/stereo by myself (maybe 7 or 8 years old), that was one of the albums I played on a regular basis (along with Genesis' Invisible Touch, Billy Idol's Vital Idol, and tons of other stuff).
To this day, I love every song off of that CD.

I wrote on my blog today about how because I'm a child of the mid 80's, I knew his music but by the time I was old enough to pick my own music to listen to I had been exposed to all of the crap he was going to court for regarding the child molestation charges. I think it kind of turned me off to being a fan of his. When I was in HS, at least at my school, it was taboo to be a fan because he was painted in the news as such a creepy pedo, and none of us really knew him when he was great. We got the aftermath growing up in the 90's and saw him become weird.
Looking at the old Michael as opposed to the freak show that went on in his later years, it's hard to think that they're the same man.
Think of the music he could have created had he not gotten into all this trouble and his career divebombed like it did.

I grew up with him. I was a huge fan of the Jackson 5 and I still have and love their music. I also liked his 80's work. But I can't help but feel sorry for him. Even if the pedofile stuff isn't true and we'll never know, there's still the awful way he distorted his looks and all of the other strange things. Something or someone really messed him up bad. I don't think it was worth it. What a sad sad life.

I grew up with him too..I loved the Jackson 5 and he was so cute...it's really sad the way his life went...I feel sorry for his kids and the life they have to live because of his problems...

To me it would be beyond weird to call a man that looked like him "daddy". Seriously. From black boy to white female--ain't modern science grand!!
I've read his parents were largely responsible for screwing with his mind, and IF that is true, I cringe at hearing his parents are suing for custody of his children.
I'm just hoping it will be very soon that the media will lay off him and find something more interesting to report on.

with any luck he'll just be a sad footnote - one of the many hollywood types that couldn't handle the fame. more evidence that too much money too early in life can be a curse.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
For all intents and purposes MJ died years ago. He was among the living dead. Some people among us are in that dire state of being. Though a state that's perilous, fate can change it just like that for the better overnight. Or it can get worse.
Now can anyone here help this Edenfantasy forum n00b with a serious forum issue? I just registered a few minutes ago. And something is very strange about this forum. I don't see a 'Start a New Thread' button anywhere. Where on the page is the button to start a new thread?????

I agree though. He died right after Thriller. Maybe he was really a zombie/werewolf thing

I was never really into his music, but he was a part of my childhood. I am an 80's brat. Love all things 80's, Michael Jackson (R.I.P.) included. I think of him along with Corey Feldman and Corey Haim (R.I.P.) I remember him in his red "thriller" jacket, Fedora, and one glove!

I hate to admit it, but I didn't listen to much of his music until after he passed. It's sad. I didn't know what I had been missing out on until he was already gone :/

I think MJ is a text book example of regression. He never had a childhood and as an adult he had more money than God and could have a childhood. I think he ran with it. I don't think he molested children and I don't think he was understood by anyone, especially his family. I cried for days when he passed. An example of how fame and fortune and a little bit of information can ruin your life.

I had a crush on him, when I was a child, and he was a young black man. (I told my mother, "Would you be upset if I married a black man?" and she asked me, "Who are we talking about?" and when I said I was going to marry Micheal Jackson, she tried not to laugh and said, "Well, when you and Micheal announce your engagement we'll talk about it."
I grew up, and I have NO idea what happened to him.
It's sad, really. (Not that I grew up, that he was so messed up.)
I had Jackson 5 records on some kind of cardboard from the back of the box of Alpha Bits. They were my first real "records."

Michael Jackson was a troubled, but extraordinarily talented musician and media icon. I believe he was a Western cultural icon who spanned several decades; maybe even two generations. His demise was very sad; some might say that it is evidence of what havoc the media and public pressure can wreak on the life of a talented but fragile man.

All of that and more. It's a shame he passed. It's amazing how much you can mourn those you never knew in person.
