I think it's pretty neat! It sounds like a fun, safe profession, and while it isn't for me, I'm all for other people pursuing it.
What does society think about webcam modeling? Do you guys think it's a suitable "job" for a male/female?

I think if you're hard pressed for cash or need a little extra and YOU are comfortable with it, then go for it. It doesn't matter what another person's opinion is, unless it happens to be your relative who shows up on the other end of the cam--which shame on them

It's not for me, but I don't judge those who do.

It takes a toll on your soul. It's no different then working in a strip club, as a dancer.

There are a lot worse ways to get money, and this doesn't seem shameful or anything to me. society as a whole would probably put it down, but if that's the job you want or need, don't let society shame you. society is full of idiots.

The actual practice of webcam modeling, totally go for it! The only part that wouldn't make it a good choice for me is the "job" aspect. Some people can handle contract work with grace and ease, and it's a good environment for them, and they don't stress over a flexible schedule. I personally need more structure. Contract work was horribly stressful for me. I like knowing when I'm going to show up to work 6 months from now. But if the structure works for you, and you enjoy the job, that's awesome!
Good luck, and have fun!!

I think its a great option for stay at home parents to help make ends meet. Cam when the children are at school or asleep, make some extra cash, have some fun and still be able to devote yourself completely to your children.

I also never had a member put me on any other sites. Yes the possibility is out there but the sites that I am on protect us from that situation.
Also another thing there are a couple of sites that offer just "Friends" so you don't have to take your clothes off just to get paid. I do very well on the Friends area without having to get naked. less

I am a webcam model and I have been for almost 3 years. This is my job I guess, and well I do want to get a real job but I think that it is a good side job. As I am typing right now, and I am being watched by 102 guys.

Hey, if it's legal, it makes you money to live on, and you wanna do it... it's fine by me!

There's a lot of long-term dangers with the spread of information and more detailed background checks. It's also advertised as a much higher paying job than it actually is. Don't get me wrong, you do make a lot of money, but it's not get rich quit scheme. It's been very interesting to realize how much personality and presentation play a role in profits- camming isn't just stripping for money, it's about talking, entertaining, and marketing a personality. It takes more skill than people normally think. Almost any sex work does.
Anyway, I think people should express their sexuality in any way they see fit, and I hope that some day it isn't even looked down upon. If they enjoy what they do, then go for it!
There's no reason that showing yourself as a sexual being should influence the way people see you. And with camming, I feel like people have the /opportunity/ to see you as more than a sexual being because so many don't simply watch you get naked or fuck because you talk first in free chat. Honestly, I've even made friends while camming.
I love doing it, and it's provided opportunities for day-to-day creativity that I haven't had in too, too long.

Oh, and a note. I think people should be weary about the longevity of their career. It's definitely true that people in scarcely represented niches (ex. alternative, BBW, MILF) can do well, because there's more demand than people will admit to publicly. Those who fit those niches don't cam as often, because they assume the public opinion to be true. Anyway, it CAN be profitable to be in a niche.

Anyway, I'm talking in a really roundabout way. My point is, even though there will always be people looking for exactly what you are (middle-aged, etc.), you should always have a back up plan. You should always have other skills, other goals, because I think it will be rare for camming to be a lifelong thing. When you decide to quit, you should think about whether or not you have seven years of experience that you can't put on a resume. Always do something else. Always learn. Always expand your skills, even if they remain within the sex industry.
With any profession, you should never stop growing.

As long as people enjoy it, and it doesn't cause permanent harm to themselves or others, why not?

If it pays the bills then its a job
05/09/2012
Word. I'm too shy/nervous about being recorded, but if you're cool with that, good for you! There's always going to be a demand (hello, technology). If sex work pays the bills, it's a job, and I hope that it gets respected as one. If work like this were generally acceptable by society-at-large, there would also be less potential for camgirls/models to get ripped off.

As long as all parties are consenting, I don't see a problem.
07/01/2012
Nothing wrong with it. A job's a job.
07/02/2012
I'm thinking about caming in the near future. I masturbate anyway so if someone I don't know wants to pay to watch I don't really have a problem with that. There are some sites that let you block entire states so that could reduce the risk of family or employers finding out.

I'd be a little nervous about people posting it to porn sites without my consent, but I honestly wouldn't have a problem with showing everything but my face.
Honestly, if someone were to offer me the job, I'd probably take it.
