I dont smoke.. but i dont see the harm in people smoking it... better than this fake weed people are smoking.
Legalize Marijuana?
11/01/2012
Legalize it. As far as drugs go, marijuana is pretty much the most harmless. Regulate and tax it, and the government could make money instead of losing money on the senseless war on drugs. Taxpayers pay too much already keeping tons people in jail for just having some weed on their person. They need to put that energy into dangerous drugs like crack and meth and just stop focusing on weed.

I don't smoke marijuana because of my job, but I would if it was legal.

I'm not interested in using pot, but it seems a whole lot more practical to legalize it. I don't see how it's worse than alcohol and tobacco when it comes to impact on society, and pot actually has medical applications.

Yes to pot and also yes to most other drugs as well. Black market on drugs means additives that cause more deaths than there would be otherwise. Plus most drug violence is caused by the fact that it is distributed on the streets instead of regular stores. So perhaps not crack or meth, but I'd be willing to give an all clear on taxing and regulating pretty much everything else out there. If people choose to be messed up all the time so be it. No one seems to mind if people are drunk constantly and I really don't see much of a difference. You can die either way. It's your life and you should be free to do with it what you choose. Clearly there should still be laws on not driving under the influence of dangerous substances.

considering there are literally thousands of benefits and issues that pot can help with without the need for dangerous drugs and that there is literally ZERO chance of ever overdosing or harming oneself by using it then YES LEGALIZE IT ALREADY ffs make booze and tobacco illegal instead, they are actually extremely harmful not just to those using them but to everyone around the people using....

I completely agree with legalising it! It'd be a great income for the government if and when they tax it, and it'll boost the economy. Nobody has ever died from weed poisoning, yet its illegal. Alcohol on the other hand? It's claimed the lives of thousands, millions perhaps, and thats legal.

I'd say legalize and regulate it. The negative effects are similar to that of tobacco, so if we allow one, we should allow the other. Besides, it'd help dry up the drug trade, which would help stabilize a lot of countries

Legalize it - tax it, they should have done this a long, long time ago!

Who cares about busting people for marijuana? Don't we have more important things to spend our precious tax payer money on?
01/30/2013
It would decrease drug-related violence and the amount of money spent on imprisoning or trying people in the court system for possession or use. It would also provide more revenue and make it safer for the users. It's stupid to keep it illegal.

As far as I know of other countries who legalized, like the Netherlands and I think in the year 2006 Portugal, the consumption of pot DECREASED a few years after the legalization.
Strange but true.
Are there any states in the USA where marijuana is legal?

Don't see why it should be different than how we treat alcohol. Legalize it!

Yes. Washington state and Colorado legalized it recently. Also, California has a pretty lax medical marijuana law; almost anyone can get a "prescription".

I'm sure the relevant experts could come up with a set of intoxication tests for driving purposes specifically for marijuana, if for some reason the ones already used for alcohol aren't appropriate (i.e., touching your nose with your eyes closed, walking a narrow line, counting or saying the alphabet backwards, etc.). As far as being at work, that's up to your employer. Most employers don't allow any drinking or intoxication at all while on the clock, and I'm sure ganja would be no exception.

First off, there is no test to tell how high you are, like with alcohol. So how can you set a legal limit on how much you can smoke and still be at work? Or Driving a car? I dont think it should be legal. I know enough people who are brain dead

I dont think it should be legal. I know enough people who are brain dead from smoking too much. And I know that I dont want to be around someone at work who has been smoking, I like coming home safe and un harmed.

In the first part of your post, you actually refuted your own argument. You said that in other countries, where the wacky weed is legal, there aren't as many problems with addiction and abuse. Which is the cause, and which the effect?

I'm just worried that with how addicted Americans are to drugs that if they legalize it things will go downhill more than they are. I mean other countries have it but they don't have nearly as much addicts/abuse as we do here. I may offend someone but that is't my intent but I just get disgusted when people come out in public and stink like hell because they just used. I HATE the smell of marijuana, it makes me sick to my stomach. I used to sit near this guy in class that came in smelling like a damn bong every class and my fiance's brother does it outside around the back of the house and when he comes back in it LINGERS forever and makes me gag. It's bad enough with alcohol alone and all the assholes drunk driving killing people or getting into drunken fights where others get hurt or killed. No thanks.

With classmates, there may not be a whole lot you can do other than to sit as far away from the person as possible. With your fiance's brother, though, assuming he doesn't live with you, you can certainly put your foot down about his use of it at your home. Just let him know, in a tactful yet firm way, that the smell makes you physically ill and it's not okay for him to smoke on your property, or to enter your home smelling like pot.
Also, marijuana is much safer that alcohol.

I have never smoked the stuff, but I think legalizing it & regulating it would be better than spending the money to prosecute for it & try to stamp it out. And let's face it - the government is never going to get rid of it. And while I don't agree with "illegal drugs", I will concede that no one has ever been in the news for getting high on weed & chewing anyone's face off.

The blood test if there are active cannabinoids will make the result safe.
I know this because a friend of mine had the whole procedure done. Finally he was not charged because he had no active substances in his blood, just metabolites.

In addition, last time I heard a statistic on it, there were zero deaths caused by marijuana, and that includes from auto accidents. ZERO. Yet alcohol is the legal drug, and marijuana the "dangerous" one?
