its complicated but i think legalization would help many
Do you, or do you not believe prostitution should be legalized?

It should be legalized and regulated. It's going to happen any way, it might as well be happening in clean, safe environments.

Make it legal, regulated and safer for workers and customers alike. And include mandatory std and drug testing every other month. Include licensing via county or state to help stop underage workers and a livescan fingerprint check for positive id on application.

It's legal in some forms in Nevada and can work to keep workers and clients safe while transacting. In Amsterdam a license is required, testing is required, taxes are paid on earnings that benefit the country and in some cases these women even receive benefits (health, ins, etc).
Do you believe that "The worlds oldest profession" should be legalized in the U.S. in order to regulate it and make it safer?
Do you believe that legalizing it is the same as condoning it and should remain illegal?
Of course there are other thoughts too, would love to hear yours. less

Make it legal and regulate it. I don't see a problem with it at all. The only thing I would look into is regulating it to a point so that you don't have pimps slapping girls around. Make it more of a callgirl type thing.
01/09/2012
i'm not really sure, but i'm not strongly opposed to it.
01/16/2012
It's already legalized in Nevada and not much has been harmed by it there, so I don't see why not. It'll happen anyway.
01/29/2012
I'm not sure because I don't know how ready and sex positive society is for this to happen. there needs to be much more protection of the safety of sex workers though.

I'm an ardent believer that sex work should be decriminalized. It makes it easier for people who want to be in the industry to do so safely and makes it easier to identify folks who are being trafficked. I learned a lot from the Prostitution Information Center in Amsterdam about their system and from this researcher who studied the Nevada brothel system:link

It will happen no matter what the laws say, but that isn't a good enough reason to make anything legal. I think it promotes an unsafe sector of society and without a revamp of how we view sexuality the people who choose that life will always be second class citizens, making it legal won't change that.
11/13/2012
Yes, with some regulation on it as well...like STD screening and such.

Yes, I think it should be legalized, because I know that it will occur anyway without legalization. If it was legalized and somewhat regulated, there would be more access to safety and protection, and people would be able to be safely open about their professions.

legalize!
11/14/2012
I got my hand up! It should be legalized! As long as things are watched over and proper care taken the women may just be happy instead of controlled!
And it should also be legal in Canada!
And it should also be legal in Canada!

Prostitution happens everywhere whether legal or not. Might as well make it legal so prostitutes can receive benefits for their services and to make it safer for the prostitutes.
11/15/2012
If it was legal, police might actually start caring when a sex worker is raped instead of just prosecuting her for prostitution.

Legalize for so many reasons
01/11/2013
Yes, it would be safer for everyone.
02/25/2013
I think it should be legal, porn is legal and there is not a huge difference between the two.
03/17/2013
In my opinion, the number one reason sex-acts-for-pay need to be legalized is for the protection of those doing the work. As it is now, when people in this line of work are assaulted or robbed, they have nowhere to turn, because if they go to the police, they'll be prosecuted themselves. The current laws also contribute to the dehumanization of sex workers, making them more likely to become victims of crime.
03/22/2013
absolutely yes. Then prostitutes can be kept safe under the laws that protect the rest of us. Those legal brothels in NV are so classy, everyone is checked for diseases, there are bouncers, and it's generally a classy affair. And anyways, they could even be taxed! There is no downside.

i dont think it should be a felony charge like it is in some states!
03/23/2013
I think legalizing it would prevent a lot of the problems involved in prostitution. They might have better working conditions, I mean people understand what they're getting into so let them do what they want. Then they will be in less dangerous situations etc. Like prevent abuse from pimps etc.
03/24/2013
Yes, legalize it.
