LOVE.
End of story lol.
I read his column and podcast almost religiously. Turned my friends on to him. I'll watch his tv appearances. I think him doing a special on MTV is a great thing, as we someone to be real about sex information and the kinds of relationships people have and how to be happy and healthy with however that looks.

I've been a fan of his for years now. Love, love, love.

I think he's great. There's a SexIs article out now written by someone who hates the "It Gets Better" movement because... idunno, I guess because it doesn't magically fix all things for all kids? It's pretty stupid. At least Dan Savage stepped up and did something.

Mostly like. I've disagreed with him on a couple things already, but not enough to dislike him.
Plus, something he did years ago is still having an effect on the world today (see: Santorum)

Unsure... O_o

i don't really know much about this.

Love Savage! He's amazing and has terrific advice!

Hate. He's a biphobic, transphobic, bigoted ass.

Personally, I think people who get all butthurt over the sort of thing allegedly sex positive people get butthurt at Dan Savage over are somewhat delusional high maintenance prats.

He tells people to not trust bisexuals and that they should "stick to their own kind" and he refers to trans people using incredibly offensive slurs. His message is not it gets better, it's it gets better if you are a cis identified person who is only attracted to one gender otherwise you are an untrustworthy freak. I am a very sex positive person which is exactly why I can't get behind a man who makes people feel ashamed about their sexual orientation or gender identity.

That Guy over there
I don't like him. Some of the things he has said in interviews are just plain mean. As for that Santorum situation, if a Conservative pulled that same stunt on him, he'd have sued. I find that he's a bit of a reactionary bully, he got bullied when he was younger so now he bullies to try and make his points.
I will give him credit for the "It gets better" campaign though.

I've never paid any attention to him.

He's certainly not the perfect spokesperson for LGBT causes but who is? He seems to be trying to do something positive.

Yes, I have seen video's and seen quotes linked directly to his own writing. That is not to say that he is a terrible person and everything that he writes is terrible, but I just can't get behind him.

I agree. For someone who started the 'It Gets Better campaign' you'd think he'd be more tolerant, it makes me sad.

I'm so torn. I do think he can be funny, and I know that he's done a lot for LGBT rights (well, LG, at least), but...I have some issues.
I did read part of an interview where Savage essentially denied the existence of bisexuals/implied that they're all lying. I'm not bi, but my boyfriend at the time was, but had identified as gay for several years in the past partly because of skepticism like this.
The other main thing I have against him is an interview where he basically told straight women to just suck it up and deal with the fact that men can't be monogamous. Now, I have no problem with people who practice polyamory, but it's not something that appeals to me personally, and I expect my partners to be monogamous. To me, that comment was borderline sexist (towards both genders)--it plays into the worst stereotypes about men and women (i.e. that men are sex-crazed animals who can't control themselves, whereas women are pure, sexless creatures who just want love and commitment).

I voted like cause I don't dislike him. Don't really care about him.

He's a complete asshole. Which is, of course, why I enjoy him so much. I'll never forget the first time I read his column. One of the letters was from a guy that could only cum if his partner was shoving a loaf of warm bread in his face. I was pretty much hooked after that.

He's also a total ass hole about polyamory.

I really like the realistic advice he gives. Sometimes I don't agree with him, but usually he does a good, thoughtful, well-researched answer.

His Village Voice section always gave me great lunch time reading when working in NYC. I think many people dislike him because he calls it like he sees it, and does not pull any punches.
09/13/2012
He's a biphobic, transphobic, asexual-shaming, racist who started a video campaign that doesn't work. To hell with that fuckwad.

I dislike him, his attitude, his demeanour, and that "It gets better" campaign is the most annoying waste of time in the world. Instead of people actually doing something to make things better for gay teens right now, they just have to spend 2 minutes in front of a computer telling gay kids to stick it out until some magical future filled with roses comes along, and then feel good about themselves for doing so.
