Anyone have any bizarre or totally awesome wedding stories to share?
I seen a post earlier about thunderstorms and thought about my wedding so I wanted to do a post about it. Heres my story...
We had everything planned for a Tropical/Hawaiian themed wedding. Family and friends venturing from out of state and across state. A rather small wedding. We picked my fathers house in the country. A beautifully wooded area, decorations set up and a neighbor brought the canopies. Tiki torches lining the "bride and groom walk way". Then it hit. The night before, it started to rain. Im in such a tizzy about everything being ruined that was set up the night before, the guys trying to bring EVERYTHING back inside so it would stay dry. Into the garage everything went. Everyone tried to calm me saying "Oh it will pass and tomorrow will be lovely. Yeah, well. Friends and family rushed around trying to put up decor while the rains rolled in that afternoon. Everything was being blown away, canopies out side were blowing in the wind and into the driveway I pull up, in my dress/hair and make up, trudging up to my dads house to hide out in my brothers room so all the wedding party could get ready. As I stood there, crying as I looked out the window at the terenchal downpour that was soaking my tiki torches and filling my chairs with water, we had to move the ceremony and everything to the front yard where the reception tables/canopies were set up. My friends and family took it so well, everyone made a bee line for the canopies and made a walk way for us to walk down to the end of the canopy line. My pastor, god bless his heart lol, and all my friends and family and soon to be husband stand there staring at me. All I could do was cry because I felt so bad everyone was outside in this stuff and everyone was just smiling at me. Our groomsman walked every one of our "sets" of wedding parties down to the canopies with an umbrella, it was so cute how everyone came together to make it happen! My dad walked me down the isle and we went on with the ceremony. My pastor, trying to yell, literally over a BOOMING thunderstorm with lightening bolts flashing across the sky behind him, grandparents with umbrellas and babies in strollers under canopies, we said our vows. After the ceremony, we found most of us in the garage trying to get the Pig and other food served (we had a pig roast, in a thunderstorm...god bless my grandfather who had been sitting in this crap since 4am that morning lol). As soon as "our first dance" came about, friends and family moved the canopies closer to the garage so that we could have our first dance out on the pavement in front of the garage. THEN, and ONLY Then did the sun come out and the rain stopped. Our kids ran around the yard while our pomeranian circled around us. Thinking back on the day, it was one of those things noone will EVER forget. And even though all my decor and grand ideas for this wedding were shot down by mother natures cruel intentions.....We thought it was totally awesome that we got to get married IN a thunderstorm, lightening and all! LOL.
