Your friends' parents: What did you call them?

Contributor: karay123 karay123
My husband and I were having this conversation the other day. Growing up, I called almost all of my friends' parents "Mr. So-and-So" whereas my husband only called them by their first names. What about you?

Even at 50 plus years old, if they are friends of my parents, they are Mr. and Mrs. to me!!!

It really depended on the friend!

It depended on the friend. Some had parents like my dad who were all "no no no, Mr. So and So is my father, I'm (insert first name)." For the most part I always made sure to call them Mr. and Mrs. It's funny you bring this up though, because I'm actually having problems with this now. Friends I grew up with, I still call their parents Mr. and Mrs., except for my husband's parents because now I'm also Mrs. Mother in law. I've noticed that new friends that I make and meet their parents, the parents introduce themselves as first name. I'm still not 100% comfortable first naming a friend's parent, so I just try like hell to avoid addressing them lol.

I guess I should say it depends on the circumstance, but my friends that I have I've known for decades and their parents want me to call them by their first name. If I made a new friend (this wont likely happen) I'd call their parents by Mr./Mrs. __________ until I was told otherwise.

Almost always it was by first name. I had two friends growing up who's mothers wanted me and other friends to call her mom.

There were only 2 of my friends' mothers who I called by their first name growing up. Now, anyone new I meet (parent of a friend) will tell me their name (I mean, I'm 36). But my BFF's mom, I STILL call her Mrs. XXXX!!!

All of my friends' parents were casual enough to let me call them by their first names (even when I was a toddler). Strangers, people in authority, teachers, etc. were people I were to address as "Mr." or "Ms."/"Mrs." or "Dr." which I do upon first meeting. I address them as they request afterwards.

when I super little, like 5, I would call them "hi, (insert friend's name) mom/ dad. when I got older, I called them either Mr./ Ms. or the first name, but it really depended on their preference.

Well I grew up in the south and we use Mr or Miss along with the first name. So I would be Miss Gracie.

It depended on the parents. Some would be Mr./Mrs., some would be first name, and I had 2 super close friends growing up whose parents I called various versions of mom & dad.

I didn't really use names, actually. I can't ever remember calling someone Mr/Mrs X. I called some of my friend's mom's mom, though.

When I was a kid I was taught to always respect my elders. It was always Mr. or Mrs. When I became an adult the decision now depends on the circumstances, but generally I now use their first name.

In my society we call the male (Uncle), and the Female (Aunt) but not by the meaning of real uncle and aunt. Also we call them by the name of their elder sun (Abu John) which means the father of John. It is not allowed in our society to call them by their names, it will be a shameless.

I often call them by their first names, but sometimes I revert to my kid self and call them Mr/Mrs (friend's name) mum/dad.

Mr. and Mrs.
When I was younger I would call them "friend's name" 's Mom or Dad. Many of my friends still call my parents by this formula.
