I started a poll yesterday to see how many people read comic books and it made me think of another question: Would more people read comics if they were not about superheros? I personally only read, maybe, two comics a month that are about superheros and I am curious to see if non-comic readers think that most comics have to include superheros...
Would you read comics if they weren't about superheros?

I love to read manga and the ones I read are not about superheros but ordinary people who achieve extraordinary feats.
10/17/2012
I read superhero comics and non superhero comics
10/17/2012
I've only read a few that have superheros. The rest all don't.
10/17/2012
I used to read a lot of manga, and very little of what I read was about superheroes, so yeah!
10/17/2012
I love all comics. super heroes or not. horror comics are really amazing too.
10/17/2012
I would the superhero thing is really overrated in my opinion.

I already read plenty of comics, both superhero comics and a variety of other genres. Just like any other work of fiction, it depends on what you're in the mood to read, and the quality of the writing.

I would read pretty much anything. But I like action. So has to have it.

Before the 1940's (Golden Age), there weren't any superheroes - except in the novel Gladiator by Philip Wylie. Instead, romance comics, Western comics, and detective/mystery comics were popular. The first modern masked vigilante (besides Robin Hood, Scarlet Pimpernel) was the Clock and was followed shortly by Dick Tracy, the Green Hornet, the Phantom, the Shadow, and many other 1930's crime-fighters. Superman and Batman came out right before WWII and the patriotic wave swept in the Golden Age of superheroes like Captain America and Wonder Woman who were strong enough to protect Truth, Justice, and the American Way (or all that "stuff" as the Hollywood movies say now).

10/18/2012
I do all the time. I like them a lot better then the generic Superhero kind.
10/18/2012
Sure, if it has a good story.
10/18/2012
idk maybe...
10/18/2012
I don't really read comics as it is, let alone based on what they're about.
10/18/2012
Probably not...but I guess it depends on what it's about.
10/18/2012
Superheros have never interested me, if I were inclined to read a comic then I would prefer one on a different subject.
10/18/2012
I do
10/18/2012
I don't read comics in general at all.
