This is just plain mean for me to make you choose! Can you choose? I still can't, but I'm thinking about it!
Would you rather live in a world without colors or without flavors?

Definitely without flavors, as long as there were still scents. As long as I could still smell and feel the texture of the food in my mouth, I believe that I would be able to enjoy it quite a bit. A complete lack of colors could actually be quite dangerous because of how many things are dependent on color.
Not to mention it would be pretty easy to lose weight if I didn't get such pleasure out of eating things that are deep-fried!
I'd obviously miss my sense of taste, but I think that I'd be more ready to give that up.

Without flavors! I would love to just worry about fueling my body rather than eating as a form of enjoyment. Would make losing weight a lot easier!

LOL!!!! I have the same thought!!!
Without flavours. I'd eat not from pleasure, but out of necessity. So can you imagine how the world would be if there were no need to think about taste? Do you think there would be less problems or more problems???
But... I see such great beauty in so many things that I am literally breathtaken and teary eyed at the beauty. And it has to do with colour contrasts mostly. To not be able to see that or sense the beauty would be devastating to me.
I've never been breathless or teary eyed because of delicious food. Unless it was really really really spicy. BUt that doesn't count.

I think it would be better in most ways, but I wonder how many people would get sick because they couldn't tell the food they were eating had gone bad. I think that would be the only big issue with that in general.

i think life might actually be easier if there were no flavors

Sense of smell should take care of much of that problem, but you make an excellent point. However, with no taste, there is no need for all the varieties of foods, we could just eat the same stuff, maybe mixing up the textures. Maybe that would eventually lead to easy, compact meal "pellets" or something like you might have seen in a sci-fi movie. And that would probably be something they could account for in the new technology. I wonder if our idea of what smells good to eat would change because the Pavlovian association would be gone.

Duh! You didn't say sense of smell was taken away! Wow...sorry about that! You are right! I think it would be so much easier if we all just ate the same things like you mentioned.

Without colors. As a photographer a lot of what I see in my mind is black and white and I find it abosolutely beautiful. Without flavors ... well, life would be boring.

It appears the website won't let you directly link to that page, I had to go to the main page then select the mantis shrimp from there. And WOW , that is the coolest thing I have seen in forever! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I hope everyone reads the whole thing, it's mind blowing how cool this creature is, not to mention beautifully colored. Imagine all the colors it sports that we can't see?

OMG, you really are a nerd, like you claimed in my other discussion, aren't you? I just love that you knew about this! The best thing I've learned about in a while. And to think I didn't even know about this until just now. Think of all the stuff out there to learn! I can hardly restrain myself sometimes, I get so excited learning things. And yes, I am nerdy, as well as a geek!

I was going to say no color. But now I say no flavor. I agree, I'd rather eat purely out of necessity, which would be easier if food didn't taste so delicious.

I don't think it matters either way. I feel like visual snow would be even worse without colors because life would literally be like looking at an old staticy black and white TV. I feel like without flavors I would be even more neurotic about food textures. I don't really care, neither are that bad or that awesome. I guess it would make getting dressed in the morning easier if I didn't have to make sure the colors went together so I will pick that.

Flavors. I would definitely miss out on the subtle beauty of the world. Plus, if food didn't really have flavor, it would super easy just to eat what is necessary to live healthy. If there was no craving for junk food, it would benefit a lot of people.

I would rather live without any colours. I've always thought that black and white movies are kind of cool. Plus I am a huge glutton, I just would not want to give up on good food.

Flavors. I live for color, for painting, for vivid photographs, for sunsets, for the turquoise color of the ocean. I could not do without that.
Flavors, I could do without. Then I would be satiated eating carrots and celery and not want hot fudge sundaes!!
