Will Don help Texas?

Contributor: Eucaly Eucaly
Tropical Storm Don is heading towards drought-stricken Texas. Dr. Jeff Masters of "Weather Underground" says: "If Don can expand in size and intensify to a 50 - 55 mph tropical storm, it has the capability to bring hundreds of millions of dollars worth of beneficial rains to the state. However, we have a Goldilocks problem. We can't have Don intensifying into a hurricane, or its winds and flooding might bring hundreds of millions in damage. Neither do we want Don to stay in its current state, which is too small and weak to bring significant rains to Texas. If Don follows the current NHC forecast, which brings the storm up to a moderate-strength tropical storm, that would be just right."

Don will bring needed rains, and minimal or no damage.

Don will bring too much damage.
Don won't be a problem, but won't help either.

I believe this is the first time I've ever heard of any area wanting a tropical storm to hit.

Hopefully it will help the region. That would be a delightful change from all the other natural disasters that have occurred in the last twelve months.

Texas needs the rain. As long as there isn't too much damage, and it looks like it's going to stay a tropical storm, and not a full hurricane, I think the rain will help a LOT. The drought in Texas is awful.

Great question, as I was talking about this to My Man last night and a friend (whose name is Don LOL) this morning.

It would need to last a lot longer than a hurricane to make any meaningful difference
