I've been on a Tracfone for about 2 1/2 years now and am sorta contemplating going back to contract phones for a Droid 2 or iPhone. Is it worth it? Any good stories to share? Parables? Suggestions?
Who's your cell phone carrier?

I have Verizon, as does pretty much everyone near me because the other carriers just tend to be spotty here. I don't know the ins and outs of what options are available and how much it costs though, because my company pays the bill. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I have Rogers and it's ok I guess, for emergencies. We don't use the cell all that much.

I have an iPhone, so it's AT&T for me. Before that I used Sprint and hated them due to very poor customer service, but that was like 3-4 years ago, so they might be better now. AT&T certainly has their issues, but for the most part I'm pretty happy. I should also say that my iPhone was a gift, and it's the only "smart phone" I've ever used, so I don't know how it compares to the Droid or Blackberry. I think a lot of that is personal preference anyway.

I have been with T-Mobile for 7+ years and still love them. They've been great to us. Gary and I have Blackberrys and the kids have a Samsung.

We just switched to T-Mobile from Verizon in December. I get reception in my house now, it's fantastic. So far I'm pretty happy with everything.

I had a LOT of issues with Sprint when I had them. The worst was when they re-upped my contract every single time I even the smallest change to my plan.

I don't really use a lot of minutes a month and don't leave the computer that much either, so I'm debating if I should even go with a contract phone at all right now.

I was a Sprint customer for 8 years, then I had a billing problem and they were rude, lied to me, and didn't do what they said they would do (I had to call back twice and they still didn't credit my account, then shut off service.) It was the collections agent I had to deal with to get service restored, that finally issued the credit they'd promised me and apologized.
Then when I went to cancel my service, even though I had been told it would only be $50 per line, they charged me $250 to cancel it because one of the lines (the one I'd had for 8 years) was grandfathered in to not qualify for a reduction in the fees as you near your end-of-contract-date. Way to treat your long-time customer, Sprint.
Now, I has AT&T cuz I has iPhone. Other people say it's crappy, but in KC, we have no call dropping issues of any kind and the signal strength is actually so much better than Sprint's (which is SO ironic because Sprint's World HQ is about 5 miles from my house).

I've been with Virgin for a couple years with only minor complaints
02/10/2011
Ive been with ATT for 6 months and no problems
02/10/2011
I have had AT&T since I got a phone when I was a sophomore in high school i.e. 6-7 years ago. They are very annoying sometimes, but most services are. But, mostly at school my service is pretty great with AT&T.
02/10/2011
I love Sprint. I haven't had any problem with them and they're much cheaper in regard to having a smart phone
02/10/2011
Virgin mobile. Their plans are very affordable
02/10/2011
I have Metro PCS and hate it. The prices are decent and while its no contract, that means if you are even a day late your phone gets turned off till you pay it. Oh and the signal sucks.
I used to have both Sprint and AT&T. I would recomend AT&T over sprint but I hear that Verizon is the best.

As of today, Verizon. Verizon just has so much better coverage out here than any other carrier.

Yeah. My dad and I have been with T-Mobile from the start (almost 10 years now) and don't plan on changing anytime soon. T-Mobile has the best customer service of all four major carriers. The only downside to T-Mobile is that they don't have the most "hip" and up-to-date phones, but they still have good phones, like the G2.

It really depends on the coverage in your location, and who has the best coverage.

I have Verizon and I think it does pretty good.

I have had Verizon off and on for years and Sprint for a bit too. Sprint had semi decent service in my area of Washington, DC area but the prices were so high. With Verizon, I'm now under with my mom and she added 3 lines (the ones that are suppose to cost 10/line) and it increased her bill by 100 instead of the supposed 30. So we are probably going to cancel it all.
It is really sad how much these phone companies milk you. They are just as bad as credit card companies. I don't think I would really recommend getting a contract phone unless you enjoy the stability of always having it and not losing your number or anything.
I do know that WAL*MART has some pretty cheap pay as you go phones. My mom was saying you could get unlimited talk, message and data for 45 a month.

In the past I have had Nextel (Sprint), T-Mobile, and even AT&T. All of them had very spotty service. We travel to the mountains all the time and NONE of them would pick up, except for example Pigeon Forge (and even then it's only in certain spots).
But after we switched to Verizion, we started having great service almost everywhere. The only place that we have discovered to be a "Dead Zone" was Cades Cove in Tenn. and that's primaraly because it's an 11 mile Nature Loop.
And also the costomer service reps with Verizion are very nice and are willing to work with you, should you have any problems with your bill, or are unable to make a payment (on time). I have been very pleased with the service that I have received from Verizion.
(I have had Verizion for 4yrs now.)

We've used ATT for ages. My only problem with is that its one of many carriers that don't work inside the building where I work. Only one (sprint I think) could penetrate that cell phone dead zone.
But now I have a window cube so I can use my cell phone again. No more standing outside in the freezing cold, noisy downtown to make calls.

I had an AT&T cell phone plan for about four or five years, and now I've been with Verizon for almost four years. I like Verizon better. I think we get more for our money, and they have good signal where we live. The customer service call line isn't great, and their website is not that helpful or intuitive last time I checked, but once the account is set up, we don't have to mess with the online settings. So...it's not amazingly wonderful, but it works for us. Can you hear me now?

Cades Cove is such a beautiful area, and considering how the drive is situated, it doesn't surprise me either that cell reception is non-existent there.

I go to the mountains and high desert out here in the Pacific Northwest frequently, and recently when a friend of mine who has Verizon visited us and got reception ten times the number of remote locations I did with AT&T, I decided it was time to switch. I like the idea that if I'm hurt out in the wilderness, there is at least some chance I can call for help. With AT&T, I'd be vulture food.

I've had t-Mobil for several years. They are a few place that I wish they had better coverage but not enough me to complain to much. I'm not big on having the latest technology so pretty much any company's selection of phones will leave me happy.
02/11/2011
Incorrect vote for me, I use Verizon. I did have ATT but was disappointed on coverage and dropped calls.
02/11/2011
Virgin Mobile. I like that they don't require a contract, and you can switch up plans every month if you want.
02/11/2011
I have Net 10 which is a part of tracfone. I only switched from tracfone so that I could get a phone with a full keyboard. It definetly prefer tracfone over net 10 though. I'll switch back whenever they start carrying better phones!
02/11/2011
Verizon. Can't wait to finally get an iphone...or at least have the option to.
