I use to because, it was cheaper and we got more for our money. Now, our landlord supplies us with tons of watermelon for free. Yes, they are seeded. I do prefer seedless but, most of the one's I've purchased weren't very good.

I agree with the above response, we used to buy them because they were less expensive and tasted the same anyway. I don't mind the seeds though, so it isn't a problem.

On the rare occasion we actually buy watermelon it's usually seedless, I guess my mom prefers it or something. I don't mind though, I heard horror stories all the time when I was little about how if you swallow the black seeds in watermelon it'll grow in your stomach.
I know it's not really true now but it sort of lingers in the back of my mind.

I love watermelon. As a child my mom would have to buy 2 watermelons; one for me and one for the rest of the family. I would always sit out side and spit the seeds. I still spit out the seeds its super fun & every time I get watermelon now it remind me of being a kid spiting out the seeds and my grandfather saying "if you eat them seeds you'll grow a watermelon in your belly"

People who grow their own can usually only grow seeded watermelons. Seedless usually have to come from slip cuttings.
Also, seeded watermelons are usually bigger. If you are serving a crowd, some people buy the larger ones.
I prefer the smaller seedless (well mostly seedless) watermelons because where we live, they are sweeter. Also, I don't have to store a bigass watermelon in my refrigerator if it isn't finished.
I wanted to add watermelon plants can't grow in your belly. It is too acidic, doesn't have access to soil and the right kind of nutrients and most important; there is no sunlight in your body. Plants need sunlight to to more than just sprout. In most people's bodies their upper GI system is simply too acidic to sprout plants.

If there is a choice in the market, which anymore there isn't, between seeded and seedless..the seeded are usually bigger, meaning more people can enjoy, and a few bucks cheaper. I sometimes will choose this option if my family wants watermelon and the choices are a 6 buck seedless or a 3 dollar seeded. But I will cube the watermelon and remove all the seeds I can before serving it.

Seeded, seedless, I don't care... I want it anyway if it's watermelon.
It used to be we could get locally grown seeded watermelons for $2-$3. Now they're only available in stores and cost a lot more, but seeded are still cheaper than seedless. The seeds don't bother me, and I usually cut the watermelon into cubes anyway, so it's not worth the extra money to get seedless.

I don't mind seeds. And seeded melons are considerably cheaper.
Also, the watermelon I eat comes from my backyard so they're going to be seeded.

I get seeded because it's cheaper and sometimes people sell them by the side of the road, and those are always seeded. As long as you don't bite the seeds I really don't notice a difference!

I do because you can get it from a local grower

I get the seeded ones because they cost less, and I get more. I love watermelon, so having more is always a good thing. The seeds don't bother me at all.

I was told that a woman swallowed a watermelon seed and she grew a baby. One day I actually walked up to a woman and told her I knew what she had been doing, her belly told on her. Ummm, I was four or five and she was very embarrassed. Not long after that my parents told me watermelon seeds do not make babies. Oops!!
Hey--seed spitting contest-bet I can beat you! I love doing this, it brings back the fun in childhood and I am super good at getting them to go the distance!

I never buy seeded watermelons, I only buy cubed seedless watermelon in containers because I'm lazy. When I was a little kid and only seeded watermelons were available, my mom used to warn me not to swallow any seeds, because a watermelon plant might grow in me; so I was really careful when I ate my melons.

LOL! That is such a cute story. I'm glad that I never told my kids something like that because, they probably would have done the same thing.

My family only ever did by accident, and then we would all complain over our misfortune.

Can you think of a better way to spit seeds at people?
