White slavery/human trafficking through job ads - have you ever decided not to take one because of being suspicious/worried about it?

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
Just watching a movie about it and wondering... For example back in the day, years ago when I was looking for a job I saw countless hostess job offers, modeling, and I was like "geez, everybody knows how many girls end up snatched, hell no am not gonna try any!!!" (Not that I wanted to do any of them anyway... ^^)

So I just wonder... (Also having met real models and one hostess once...) Has this ever happened with you too? ~smiles shy

Not these job types, but I have had my suspicions about other offers before...

Naw, this has never happened with me...

Am a male, but I have had the same thing happening to me because of something else... (Being a crossdesser for example, and what not...)
Am a male, so this doesn't stand for me...
Other? :)

I've never had this happen, but my mom seems to think it's incredibly common. @_@

No, I've seen some job ads that looked like they were made by creepy guys that were just trying to get laid (WANTED: HOT GIRLS FOR WEEKEND GIG!) but the thought of human trafficking usually doesn't enter my mind with those. Nonetheless, I hope no girl actually responds to ads that scuzzy because a real adult gig would have a much better ad than these, I would think. They might end up in a really bad situation.

I actually... delved into that "biz" for a very short time. Not something I ever really tell people about either. Strangely enough, when asked about the jobs I've had, I rarely tell friends about that one. I would never go for that type of job again because it really was not me at all. I'm a little more modest than those jobs require, and like you said, SO many are very, very shady.

Which reminds me, while I actually was "delving into that 'biz'" I remember countless warnings and meetings about new "modelling agencies" being busted. At one point, there were even videos shown! I felt humiliated for the victims. I thankfully never got myself in that kind of situation.

Always look for an "agency's" credits! If they are legitimate, you absolutely will be able to find proof! Ask! Always ask for proofs and credentials! If they are legit, they will have them. If not, well, you can expect to be "snatched!"

There's actually a shocking amount of these types of "businesses." It blows my mind.

So no, I never had that situation. I never applied for a job that I did not already know to be reputable, and never would.

It really is common! Do some research. It'll blow your mind, like I said.

Sorry. It still shocks me to this day.

In foreign countries these jobs are usually to trick people into trafficking.

If you want to know more about US Domestic trafficking CNN is doing a great series both on US and international trafficking.

polarisproject

and

F.R.E.E. International

are good resources about US Human Trafficking ( I assuming you are in the US) but they are good just for general resources too.

I see a lot of massage therapy jobs that are not legitimate and are really just fronts for prostitution, and it is painfully obvious once you start asking any questions about the job. I don't know anyone who has tried fallen for one of these ads.

I think it would be hard to fall for that since I know so much about the laws concerning massage establishments. It might be easier to trick people in something like modeling.
