Just curious, I have a friend with this issue.
Which would you rather be?

Both?

"The one they can't live without" perhaps sounds a little codependent? I don't think my husband would want to live without me, but I know he could if something should ever happen to me. I like that he is independent in that way. I'm not like that, so I appreciate the quality in others. I like that he doesn't necessarily need me, but chooses to live with me and be with me anyway.

I thought this was going to be a poll where a fella had two girls, one he wanted to live with and one he wanted to see on the side.
When I was younger I really enjoyed being the girl with her own nice apartment that boys could stop in and see when they were feeling on-top-of-the-world (not cheating, though, everything open!), so I was going to vote that I would rather be the longed-for-one outside the relationship...
... but if the options are "wants to live with" and "can't live without," one is healthy, and the other is kinda codependent, so I'll stick with the more independent of the two options

I said both. But I wouldn't want my partner to be so depended on me. Or to needy perhaps?

I voted both. Of course he could survive without me, but he'd prefer to always have me.

Both, but a little less on "the one they can't live without". My husband doesn't know how to operate the washer/dryer and the dishwasher, maybe it's my fault, since I've never asked him to.

Ideally? Separate apartments but we'd get together a lot.

I am going to have to agree with you both.

better than can't live with me, can't live without me.

I'm not sure I want to be the one someone can't live without. That sounds a little codependent/borderline unhealthy, imho.

I like this idea. Now that we live together we rarely pretty ourselves up when we are going to see each other which would be nice.

As long as there is equal agreement in the "can't live without" area, I am for it. I like my personal space, so I don't particularly want him underfoot all the time.

Other - indifferent... If they want to live with me they can if not ohwell. If they can't live without me... maybe they should re-evaluate some things.

I want to be the person he wants to live with. The person he's looking forward to coming home to and seeing when he wakes up. The person he want's to share or forget his day with.
I don't want to be the one he can't live without. That would imply that his happiness depended on my existence. In my experience those kind of relationships can be all absorbing and the person or persons can lose themselves completely. I would hope if I was ever to not be in his life he would still live and love to the fullest.
