These two types of jobs are equally crappy, but you have to choose which one you think would be the least crappy for you. I've done both and all the scenarios are my experiences. Feel free to comment!
Which type of job would you rather have?

I hate to say it but I'd rather clean poop on my hands and knees than deal with rude asshole customers every day.

Food service has all the problems of both.
12/15/2010
Right now I work food services, which I align more with retail so I chose that one. I love my job, and the bad customers are just funny stories to tell. I don't let them get to me. My employees think I am crazy and sometimes too perky, but that is the way I like things. I don't let customers get to me so therefore my days are awesome.
12/15/2010
I work retail. for the one rude person we get we have about 25 awesome ones. I seriously love my job

Animals are much easier to forgive for their behavior. If you're a regular customer and an asshole to me, I'm much more likely to become suicidal at the end of the day than if I were dealing with an animal that just doesn't understand its behavior.
12/15/2010
I hated retail. I refuse to go back.
12/15/2010
I worked at a public bus station, and sometimes the people there were exactly like animals.

Animals occasionally bite but generally warn you plenty of times before lashing out...humans not so much. Having done both jobs I prefer dealing with sick/injured/scared animals to humans regardless of their health status at least in retail. I am more than willing to help people if I can, I just don't like dealing with them and their money.

Where is the "None of the above" option? LOL!
12/15/2010
I've worked as a salesperson for a soap company. It sucked a lot. I've also cleaned up after animals. It didn't suck as much. If you like animals, it makes it easier.
12/16/2010
I work retail and I actually like my job. I would like working with animals too, except for the poop part.
12/16/2010
i work overnight at target. its still shitty but i don't have to deal with guests.
12/16/2010
Animals! I love animals, and I'd love to be around them all day, even doing overtime.
12/17/2010
I get along much better with animals..
I have been raising them all my life and I understand them. Like Airen said, they give you warnings before attacking most of the time. You just have to know what they are. I have worked in a small pet store so I guess I had the best of both worlds there.

I worked in the food industry, back of the house, never in the front, but when someone sent a plate back, it was not good, but at least it was not dealing directly with them, I never had a problem with a dirty kitchen, all the kitchens I worked in were really clean, but to pick from the above, I pick animals, I would rather clean poop, and be on my hands and knees, animals give unconditionally there love, and like Airen said, they will try to warn you first! So animals for sure rather than deal day in and out with humans that should know better by their age!
12/17/2010
I don't really like people, generally, so that says it all right there. The one retail job I worked I wanted to die.
12/17/2010
I'd rather work with the animals even if that meant I'd have to clean their poop.
12/17/2010
I already work in retail. I hate it. I love animals, so I'd definitely choose to work with them.
Also, retail doesn't exclude anyone from poop cleaning duties. Once, at a store I used to work at, an old woman walked through all of the store and apparently pooped through most of it without noticing. Thankfully I did not work that day.

I'd like to choose animals, but I have allergies to a lot of them so it wouldn't be the poop or anything like that that would bother me, but the constantly not being able to breathe.

I work retail and although I love animals, I would choose the Bitchy customers over a crazy animal with poop and vomit. Holidays definatley bring in the worst of the consumer world but it beats being shit on (literally speaking).

Poop would be annoying but sometimes I just can't be bothered to be all happy and smiley for a-hole ingrate, rude, obnoxious (etc) customers! Though the majority are usually nice...there's always one or two who can ruin your day.
12/22/2010
animals.
03/11/2011
animals, sure it could get a bit gross and such but I love small creatures like kittens, puppies, rabbits and the like so I'd still enjoy working with them a fair bit, even if there was some bleh parts of the job.

AGREED! I already do #1 and that hasn't excluded me from cleaning #2!

After several years of working at a major Florida theme park and dealing with people every day, I would now be very, very happy to work with animals.

Animals! They're nicer than working with the public.

Working with the animals....

I've done both, and would much rather clean up after the animals!
