I hate to say it, but around vacation time for me is one of the most stressful times! I guess I'm really picky though. I've been working like a mad man for the past week and a half since we are leaving for our trip to Panama in a few hours. I get crazy the day before we go. Happens every single year. I tear the house apart cleaning and organizing, but it certainly feels nice when I get back home and it's like a new house! I hate the way I stress and spend hours hyped up on coffee and energy drinks getting everything done.
I just hate coming home from vacation to a dirty, messy house. Having everything cleaned and organized means I can come home and all I really have to do for a day or two is worry about unpacking. It is worth it, but I have nearly killed myself tonight. I realized I had pajama pants that needed washed, but didn't want to wash only one item, so I hand washed those babies. Now they're in the dryer.
And the sweetest and saddest part is that my baby, Fuzz has been sleeping in my packed suitcase all night long! I couldn't even zip it after packing because the sweet angel is sleeping in there. On all my clean clothes. Guess I'll have one hell of a hairy wardrobe! It's making me so sad because I hate leaving my pets. I think I will cry! It's like she's laying in my suitcase saying "mommy, please just pack me up and take me too!"
Am I the only person who turns into a complete mad person on the day before leaving on vacation? Everyone else who's going with us are totally relaxed, sleeping their little hearts out right now! I just don't understand how they can be so calm. Maybe I'm "high strung." Lol.
Do y'all pet owners cry when you have to leave your babies? Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets sad over that! I have Pookie, who's a weiner dog that's been with me since my early teens! He decided to run off this past week and just came back home 2 days ago! Guess the old guy found him a woman. He's already gone to my brother-in-law's for the night though, so I am missing him. Poor guy. He's normally fatish and he is so skinny now since he randomly took off for a few days.
Then I have my Hubert hamster. I spent hours cleaning his cage up, filling his food and water and giving him plenty of toilet paper for the week. Now my back is killling me from all that. But that little guy has a whole castle full of fluffy, pillow like toilet paper. He's in heaven. I had a friend of the family babysit him last year when we went to Panama, but he came back with a large bump on his arm and it stayed for a few months. I thought it was a tumor and flipped out, but it seemed to be that our friend or her kids accidentally let his cage door slam on his hand and caused the bump. He's fine now, but I'm such a paranoid person that I'm just keeping him home this year I guess.
Then I have 3 cats. Fuzz, the one passed out in my packed suitcase right now. Then Kaleesie, who's perfectly fine with or without me, but will probably miss me. Then there's Patsie. I don't know what she'll do without her mommy! We leave them for our trip every year though, but it never gets easier!
Oh, and how could I forget. My newest addition -- my turtle. He was left in an apartment that a couple moved out of. My partner owns the apartment and found the poor little guy crawling around all alone in an empty house with no food or water! So I took him in. He probably won't mind me being gone at all, but I'd hoped to send him home with my close friend. She has turtles of her own, and since he doesn't have any kind of large food bowl to keep him fed, I didn't want to leave him at home alone. Unfortunately, my friend seems to have forgotten to come pick him up tonight! LOL.
So I'm scramblin' here trying to make sure everything is perfect before leaving.
Do you guys do that? And do you leave your pets home or send them with a trust worthy person? I always worry the cats will run away if I put them in someone else's home. My Fuzz and Patsie both stayed with my cat-loving grandmother when they were kittens and we went to Panama. I think they're happier at home though. I usually just leave my bedroom window opened so they can come in and out as they please.
Also, it seems nobody I know/trust is available to come by and check up on my babies and that has me really stressed. I like to know someone will come by each day, make sure the water/food is still full and pet them for me. I haven't been able to get ANYBODY to do it for me this time though. Any suggestions on that one? I have those large water/food containers that you fill really full and as the pets eat and drink, more comes out. We've used this method for them for years, so they haven't ever ran out, but I'm still worried.
