When You Purchased A House....

Contributor: Hot'n'Bothered Hot'n'Bothered
When you purchased a house, how long did the search take? How many houses did you fall in 'love' with before finding the one you ended up with? (I know, it'll vary greatly based on many factors...just want to get a feel)

We've started the process and I feel absolutely ridiculous for saying this, as we've only been out three times with the realtor over the course of one week....but I've already had my heart broken. (Disclaimer, I had a baby last month so my hormones are probably still a bit wacko)

It was a 'blind bid' situation where if you bid above the starting you had to have cash, you couldn't finance that portion. And there was no way it was going to go for the starting bid. I'll have to ask the realtor what it went for, as of today (we were out with him and saw it sunday) it's under contract.

We found another we liked and it too is already under contract.

I've definitely learned something already, houses are going FAST...so if I like, I need to just make an offer. no sitting around thinking :/

It took us six months before buying our first house back in California; we only spent a few weeks buying our current house because we needed it in a hurry.

It only took me three weeks. I might be about where you live and time of year. I looked at about 2-3 houses a week and fell in love with one that was about to be foreclosed on. I got and got about $35,000 off the listing price and $70,000 off the full value. I had a very easy experience. On the down side my house is a little ghetto. Also I had $30k to put down on it so that helped a lot
