I start a day or two ahead. I check the weather for my destination, so I can choose clothes accordingly. It also depends if I have to do any wash to have some things. When I used to travel more than now, I kept a separate set of toiletries etc. that were for travel & always ready. I like to have everything ready so the travel day, all I have to do is hop out of bed, dress & go.
When do you start packing for a trip?

Yeah, I hate having to buy something when on the trip when I already have it at home. I only have so much money budgeted for a trip & want to spend it on good stuff, not overpriced sunscreen, or batteries!

You know what else I do? I make sure I always have my medication on my person, not checked with my bag & that I bring several days worth of extra medication, too! I have been on two trips where I had to extend my stay when I became too ill to travel, (Norovirus in Vegas & Flu in Palm Springs). Both times I was stuck there for several days past my planned departure date.

Planning what I need - 3 to 4 days ahead, actual packing the night before.

I am usually throwing stuff in the suitcase the night before (till 3 am). Yet we have a trip this week, and I am already packed three days ahead. Not sure what went different, but I like it.

I'll buy all the travel sized toiletries a few days ahead, then do the actual packing on the night before the actual trip.

It truly depends on the nature of the trip and how long it is. I will plan what I will be bringing about a week or so ahead, write up a list and add to it as the week progresses (I am bound to forget something), and then I will pack up the night before aside from last minute toiletries.

Usually 2-3 days ahead. I end up packing the day before a lot though.
