Based on what is available now, what type of technology would you rather drive to give you the best experience, fuel economy, etc? Feel free to explain.
What would you rather drive?

We would love to get a Hybrid, but we can't get a car loan

I still prefer a diesel even though it is a little more expensive to fill up. I have a Jetta diesel and do quite well. I look forward to a day when electric cars can meet the needs of most. Fuel cell looks great too.

Going with the elusive other. I think Hybrids get the best mileage to answer your question. That said, I would not own one. I live in an area that gets hurricanes and we often have to evacuate. Since many hybrids have a battery that needs to be charged if you go X number of miles I would not feel safe having one. Many times evacuation takes 12-20 hours to accomplish. I fear that a hybrid's battery would die mid evacuation and leave me stranded. It may be irrational and I don't know enough to know for sure. I'm a very paranoid person.

Hybrids are designed more as a gas vehicle that is supplemented by electric, so for right now there is no need to plug them in. There are new plug-in hybrids that can be run strictly on electric for a limited range, then the gas engine is there to carry them for the distance. I know what you mean about hurricane evacuations living on the gulf coast, I usually don't get to leave though. just as a comparison during Katrina, most gas stations ran out of gas, but diesel was easily obtained. I usually get 700-750 miles from a tank averaging around 50 mpg. I have friends who have pushed them to 65 mpg on the highway.

Based on the currently available technology, definitely a hybrid. There is not necessarily enough support for an all electric vehicle. But I have no particular need for engine power and rapid acceleration and hybrids/electrics are better for the environment. Diesels are perfectly fine but it gets pretty cold around here and we don't have an enclosed garage space, so that would likely pose some problems.

i like it to have lots of giddy up

Living in southern CA I would love a hybrid just for the mileage.

We're not buying another new car, but I'd like a hybrid for fuel economy.

A medium to larger sized car. Was almost killed in an econo car. I prefer gas or diesel, they tend to be larger vehicles.

I'm not a hybrid fan. I usually keep a car well past 100k miles - and I don't need the hassle of having to replace hugely expensive battery packs. Give me a nice old fashioned gas powered sedan.

I want a hybrid.

We have a hybrid, and we spend a quarter of what we used to one gas. We switched from a Mustang to a Prius. MUCH less speed, but, much less gas money too. Whenever we miss our Mustang, we just close our eyes and pretend we're in a Mini Cooper

I said gas only b/c I only want to drive Subarus. Once they get a hybrid, I'm on it.

I drive a diesel and I wouldn't trade it for anything

Hybrid

Although natural gas vehicles have obviously not taken off yet, I am hoping they will someday soon! Talk about cheap to fill and great for the environment!

Hybrid, probably.

I would love to have an electric car.

a diesel truck.

Electric or hybrid would be ideal. Although I love my Honda.

I'll rather drive a regular gas-saver, than spending a lot more on buying a hybrid.

Full electric

Diesel is more economical here in the UK. But I use public transport rather than own a car.
