A month or two at the most.

A 17 year old goldfish, that's crazy! My sister has a beta fish (pretty much mine now since she's off at college) and he's almost 3 years old.
03/22/2013
I think I had some for about a year, but it might have been longer.
03/22/2013
I've never had fish.
03/22/2013
I had one that lasted about 5 years.
03/22/2013
My last gold fish was to long ago.

I had two goldfish once, Fluffy and Bubbles. Fluffy died of natural causes in about 2 days, Bubbles died the next day. It can only be assumed that Bubbles died due to a broken heart. I've never owned another goldfish. They're too much damn work.
Yes, I really had two goldfish. Yes, I really named them Fluffy and Bubbles.

Other because I don't remember having a gold fish. I had a cat fish! I think it lasted maybe 7 months to a year? I don't really know. We had a tiny shark too. I remember once he got out of his tank and I woke up hearing a buzzing sound. He was lying on this box that plugged into this bubble making thing! LOL. He lived through it. I was like 7 at the time of the shark and my cat fish. I cried when my cat fish died. He died because my twin sister got her a cat fish, who was sick of course and he died like the same night we bought him, then it killed my damn cat fish! Because he contaminated him. I think.

Then we had just plain fish for several years, and then a few years ago I had puffer fish! I loved those things! And you know what? Come to think of it, my sister has basically been part of what killed all my fish! I suspect she poisioned my puffers when I was gone. I also had some pretty exotic yellow fish before I got the puffers, but they developed black spots and died like 2 years after I got them.
After the puffers went, I never got anymore.
HOLY F! Thirty years of having a gold fish. I'd get bored. My partner's grandmother collected deformed gold fish. She had HUGE tanks all in her house. They were so unique... some ugly. But none of them ever lived to be thirty, most died soon. Maybe because they were all deformed, but some are still alive, so they may make it to thirty. Wow.

I had one for a year if I remember correctly. My betta fish always lived much longer.

I only remember the Betta fish I have had. I had one particular one in high school going into to college that lived about 7 years! He was beautiful.
03/23/2013
A couple months of living in the tank.
03/23/2013
Never won one

I have 3 goldfish right now that I have had for probably 7 years. They are huge now, like 10" long. I'm the one in my family that can keep fish alive for a while.

I don't have aquariums anymore but when I was a kid to into my early twenties did. I'd really only had goldfish as feeder fish for other larger fish back then. I had several Oscars and one that lived a little over ten years.

I was at a wedding when I was maybe 16, and there were a bunch of slightly drunk nineteen and twenty year old guys that I was uh... drawn to, for some reason, (they were hot). At one point, they decided that it would be fun to eat the goldfish that were the centre-pieces on all of the tables. I actually considered eating one too, but then I decided that we probably can't break down bone very well and I took it home with me instead, named it Sushi and kept it in its bowl until it died like, six months later. My sister had a fish for 7 years, though, and we just gave it away because she left for college.
