What virus protection do you use?

Contributor: HannahPanda HannahPanda
What programs do you use to keep your computer clean? There are a lot of free ones that can do that job well, but some people choose to purchase virus programs from stores, instead. What do you use?

I'm a programmer and have spoken with several co-workers on this topic, including the security folks at my company. I was a die hard Norton subscriber for years. I was talked into using AVG (free-ware) a few years ago and have not had a problem since. Virus free for about 2 or 3 years now. I also run on occasion, Spybot and Ad-Aware every 2 or so months to be on the safe side.

Back on PC, use Avast. But also Malwarebytes for an occasional scan.

It's okay to have multiple ones as long as they're not ACTIVE at the same time. Pick one for active scanning and you can have as many as you want for the occasional all-over scan.

When I had a Mac, I had Sophos (free). It did catch something once so although there wasn't much risk, I mean... why not ?

My husband is a computer technician and is in school for computer software/programming at the moment and will be getting his master's in computer security so we go through all sorts of anti-virus software. We've used Mcafee, kaspersky, norton, spybot search and destroy, advast, malwarebytes, superantispyware, at one point or another. He's always on the lookout for a good one. We usually install maleware bytes and superantispyware free versions when we're fixing computers for customers that bring us computers that have virus' on it.

I have used norton, mcafee, and malware bytes in the past, but always ended up searching for something better in the end, Currently I am using avast and have been liking it a lot.

Malware and it works just fine on it's own. I don't trust Norton at all! Too many bad experiences.
